You don't need to know. Give someone a direction — walk, spin, look at each other — and the awkwardness disappears on its own.

Ten families. One photographer. And not one of these sessions looks the same.

Because families don’t look the same.

Some are loud. Some are quiet. There are toddlers, teenagers, grandparents, new babies, dogs, bare feet, big personalities and people who would genuinely rather be anywhere else than having their photo taken.

I don’t want to make your family look like somebody else’s.

I want the way **you** are together.

The hand that automatically reaches for theirs. The ridiculous laugh. The child who won’t sit still. The proper everyone-looking-at-the-camera photograph too, because sometimes that one matters enormously.

The little things that feel completely ordinary now, but won’t always.

Ten different families. Ten completely different stories.

Nobody ever regrets getting the photos. It's the waiting they regret.

Waiting for the house to be tidy, the kids to be a bit older, the "perfect" time that never quite turns up — while the little stage you're in right now quietly slips past.

I don't need anyone to sit still, say cheese, or "behave." Some of my favourite photos ever have come from kids who were absolutely not cooperating — upside down, mid-giggle, doing laps of the studio.

When they’re not tiny anymore, but they still lean in.

Still tuck themselves under your arm.
Still laugh when you laugh.
Still let you hold them, even if only for half a second before they pretend they’re too cool.

That middle bit of motherhood deserves photos too.

Not just the newborn days.
Not just the toddler chaos.

The growing-up years.
The long limbs.

You need the hand on the shoulder.
The kid who gives you half a grin.
The big brother who tries not to laugh.
The little one who forgets the camera is there.

That’s where the good photos live.

Studio sessions are not about turning your family into polished little statues.

They’re about giving everyone enough space to be themselves, then catching the tiny moments in between.
