There is a massive difference between a "headshot" and a portrait. One captures what you look like; the other captures who you are, or who you want to be.

I’ve been experimenting with some moody, "Film Noir" inspired self-portraits lately to push the boundaries of light and shadow.

It just goes to show that you don’t need a massive commercial space to create amazing results when you have the right light, gear and know how.

From warm, approachable smiles to deep, moody B&W edits, it’s amazing how a shift in lighting and lens choice can completely redefine the story a portrait tells.

Which one is your favourite?

There is something timeless about the interplay between light and shadow. I wanted to experiment with a "Film Noir" aesthetic using hard light, lace textures, and deep shadows to create something that feels less like a photo and more like a still from a 1940s classic.

Huge thanks to my beautiful wife, Chloe, for being the perfect subject for this series. We turned our garage into a high-end studio for the afternoon, proving that you don't need a massive set to create massive drama.
