Piha Beach has always been my go to location - for inspiration, for some me time, to play with new camera and lens and sometimes only to escape to the beach. It is always a joy to witness the many moods of Piha!

On this particular night, I had given up hope of any photography due to the persistent cloud cover and was almost packed and ready to drive out when the wind picked up and the clouds started giving way to the stars beyond revealing this magical scene.

Lake Tarawera has been high on the wish list and while there are many possible compositions here, this one is simply my favourite with the fronds of the palm tree framing the scene!

This was a night of adventures, where snoozing in my brand new Airbnb on wheels was much more fun than I had anticipated! Add to this the joy of bumping into like minded people out chasing the night sky and Allan Ludlam, it was an absolute pleasure meeting you both!

Magical Mangawhai

It’s been a while since I last posted and I’ve missed being here on IG.
In the last couple of months, I’ve moved homes twice, started a new job that seems to be swallowing me whole and cancelled a gallery exhibition due to COVID lockdown in Auckland! So while I’ve been able to photograph at some stellar locations, I just haven’t had the chance to process any of it.
I hope you like this image ... this was captured on one of those crazy weekends where I was chasing clear skies across the north island and falling in love with the concept of sleeping on location! Yes my car is now converted into a camper van and I’m the joys of catching a snooze in between shoots are just too many to list 😀😍

A rainbow to kick start another adventurous year!

And this trip to Mangawhai Heads was nothing short of an adventure!! I had walked right up to the top end of sea stacks at low tide and lost track of time shooting a variety of compositions with the gorgeous rock pools. By the time I realised the tide had turned, I was trapped!!

Well, a few dunks and slips later, I managed to make it ashore totally battered and bruised but grinning ear to ear 😁

This image was captured at the beginning of summer on a day that promised to be crazy hot! So hot, I had a sun stroke and spent the afternoon in bed totally lifeless and finding it difficult to convince myself to go out for a sunset shoot! I mean, I was at Lake Wanaka! Anything would be good here... right?? I’ll be honest I had convinced myself to ignore the sunset and gotten ready to watch some none sense telly.
... and then the clouds rolled in booming with thunder so loud and rain so heavy that I literally ran all the way down to the lake with my camera and umbrella!!

This gorgeous scene captured on a recent trip to South Island had me hard braking the car, flying out with the camera & tripod leaving the driver’s door & boot open! If those horses dispersed in different directions it wouldn’t be half as magical & therefore the crazy rush!!

I must say this was perhaps the most satisfying and beautiful moment of that entire road trip !!
