The birdlife on Tiritiri Matangi Island is incredible...truly one of the unspoilt gems of the Hauraki Gulf.

The ferry from the Viaduct Harbour takes about 1½ hours. Once there, we joined a two-hour guided birding walk around the island.

We spotted Bellbird, Kereru, Tui, Riflemen, Toutouwai, Fantail, Hihi and the odd Weta .

If you’re planning a visit, bring your lunch and water, there’s no food available on the island.😃

Mike is a friendly and warm spiritual soul, well known in St Heliers village.

He makes his bed on the steps and the birds bring him joy and a sense of alignment.
