The name 'Rust & Thyme' comes from our shared love of burnt umber and dark forest green tones. They're shades we're drawn back to, time and time again.

Anyone else get that itchy-feeling when you've been in an urban area for too long?
It's probably just the crazy spell before Christmas when you're trying to get all your work tied up before a break, but we're really feeling it at the moment!
We have friends over from the UK in a couple of weeks. Can't wait to bring in the NY with them at a campsite in the beautiful New Zealand countryside!

As much as we love the weather getting warmer here in NZ, you just can't beat a moody sky for an ominous backdrop!

We've had a bird-watching filled weekend - the best kind, if you ask us!
We strolled round a lakeside park in the city, filled with black swans, geese, pukeko, tui, Australian coots, paradise shelducks, swallows and black-backed gulls.
But for now, here's Mr Kererū, looking all puffed up on his branch.

After yesterday's storm cleared the air, we can't wait for the warm weather predicted for this weekend. Hopefully we'll find the time to go for a little dip in this luscious pool!

One more gannet shot, just in case you needed a bit more convincing of their loveliness!
A beautiful breeding pair, incubating their creation.

As promised, the shot of tightly packed rows of Gannet - aka tākapu - nests.
Within a gannetry, both male and female are responsible for incubation duties and the sound of 'beak fencing' fills the air - a display of affection between breeding pairs.

A Gannet keeping that egg cosy!
We were fortunate enough to get up close and personal during nesting season, whilst visiting the colony in Muriwai. There are literally hundreds of these glorious seabirds, all huddled together on the cliff tops. I'll post a shot of the tightly packed rows of nests soon.

The view from Cát Bà Island, Vietnam.
During our overnight boat trip in Ha Long Bay, we opted to stay the night on the island. We hired a scooter and drove up the peak to get a good view over the bay and visit the cannon barracks from WWII.

It's been nearly constant rain here in Auckland for the past two weeks, so we haven't been able to venture out much in our free time!
It's my birthday this weekend, and we'd planned to go camping up North for a couple of nights, but it's looking like it's going to be another wash-out unfortunately.
Fingers crossed for a change in the forecast! We could really do with some sea-breeze and sand between our toes.

A rare sighting of a Bellbird, or makomako.
Another feather friend responsible for regeneration of native forests, playing a key ecological role.
The bellbird's song is a welcome sound on any bush walk, and has special resonance with us in particular. Seven years ago, we made a big decision to try and build a life on the other side of the world from home. We were listening to bellbirds singing in Christchurch's botanical gardens and felt we'd quite like to keep listening!
