Webb's Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia September (No.25CC) - Vol.9:

This is the final Alfa Romeo production model to use the 24v 3.2 L Busso V6 before Euro 4 emissions killed off the iconic motor: the 2011 Alfa Romeo GT!

The Busso makes 237 hp @ 6,200 rpm & 300 Nm @ 4,800 rpm and was mated strictly to a 6-speed manual transmission! It’s 0-100 kph acceleration was 6.7 seconds and it could reach 243 kph!

Its styling was designed by Giuliano Biasio from Gruppo Bertone, who also did the Fiat Panda II, Aston Martin Jet 2 and the Lamborghini Genesis minivan!

The GT lapped Hockenheim Short in 1:21.6; which makes it 0.1 seconds faster than the ‘Bugeye’ WRX STi and the Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3 (930)!

Webb's Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia September (No.25CC) - Vol.8:

This is a 1998 Holden Commodore (VR) Series II HSV GTS powered by HSV’s 5.7 L “215i” Stroker V8 with 292 hp @ 4,800 rpm & 475 Nm @ 3,600 rpm. It does 0-100 kph in 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 246 kph, making it the fastest production car built in Australia at that time!

This particular car is No.78 of 375 units made, and only 228 of those were equipped with the BorgWarner 6-speed manual transmission! Of these cars, only 20 units were sold brand new in New Zealand, so this is incredibly rare!

Webb's Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia September (No.25CC) - Vol.7:

This is a 1986 Peugeot 205 GTi powered by a 1.9 L XU5J inline 4, making 126 hp & 161 Nm of torque.

It laps the Hockenheim Short in 1:28.8, on par with a 2014 VW Passat 2.0 TDi and the 2003 Ford StreetKa; and 0.1 seconds faster than E30 325iX and Fiesta XR2i 16v!

Webb's Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia September (No.25CC) - Vol.6:

This is the 1986 Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint 1.5 Quadrifoglio Verde Series 2 in Nero!

Although a relatively “basic” car in terms of Alfa’s lineup, being a QV meant that it was designed to be the quick version of the city-sized Italian hatchback!

The engine was a high-revving 1.5 L flat 4 boxer motor making 104 hp @ 6,000 rpm & 133 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. As it was a front wheel drive car, this meant that the rear row had no transmission tunnel to deal with, meaning the floor was flat and open!

Webb's Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia September (No.25CC) - Vol.5:

This is a 1998 Holden Commodore V6 Royale (VS) powered by Opel’s 2.5 L X25XE V6 with 168 hp @ 6,000 rpm & 227 Nm @ 3,200 rpm. Its acceleration and top speed isn’t its main function as it’s more luxurious than sporty.

This particular model is painted in a unique Rose Grey Metallic. This is significant because only 300 units were built, the majority of which were painted in Anthracite, Black and Silver. From Holden registries, we can estimate that fewer than 10-20 were ever built in this colour!

Webb's Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia September (No.25CC) - Vol.4:

This is a 1991 Peugeot 205 GT powered by a 1.4 L TU3S inline 4, making 79 hp @ 5,800 rpm & 110 Nm @ 2,800 rpm.

It laps the Le Mans (Bugatti) Motorcycle Circuit in 1:21.8, 0.1 seconds faster than its rival (Citroën Visa GT), 0.6 seconds faster than the Autobianchi A112 Abarth & 0.7 seconds faster than the 1982 Volkswagen Polo GT!

Webb's Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia September (No.25CC) - Vol.3:

This (and its spider counterpart) is one of my dream cars: the 1990 Alfa Romeo SZ Zagato. An absolute chad in terms of design, with its unique “box”-type shape, phone dial wheels, and stunning colour-contrasting cockpit greenhouse! Because of its brutalist appearance, it was nicknamed “Il Mostro” (“The Monster”) as you can see on the registration!

It was the first production car to be entirely designed using CAD! The body was derived from rallying and racing, as it was made out of injection-moulded composite glass-fibre thermosetting resin attached to the Alfa 75-type steel chassis.

Almost all SZ’s left the factory in this uni-colour Grigio Scuro (Dark Grey) over Rosso Alfa (Alfa Red) spec with tan interior. That’s 1,035 of 1,036 units. The remaining 1 is in black, and was reserved from Andrea Zagato. (So if you see any other coloured versions, including the SZ Trofeo, they are all aftermarket resprays). For comparison, the counterpart RZ convertible was a lot more comfortable, with 126 in Rosso Alfa, 73 in Giallo Ginestra (Broom Yellow), 75 in Nero (Black), 3 in Argento (Silver), and 1 in Pearl White!

The car was powered by a 3.0 L NA Busso 12-valve V6, which is considered one of the best sounding V6’s of all time! It makes 207 hp @ 6,200 rpm and 245Nm @ 4,500 rpm. It can do a 0-100 kph acceleration in just 7.0 seconds, and had a top speed of 245 kph!!!

It was remarkably quick for its time, as it could pull 1.10 to 1.14G. In comparison, cars like the 964 Carrera, Ferrari 348 and NSX peaked around 0.88 to 0.95G; the F40 and 959 peaked around 1.0G. It stock tires in 1989 matched that of the BMW M3 (F80) or the new shape Cayman S. On modern tire compound, the SZ can reach as high as 1.4 G like a Lotus Elise or a Caterham 7!

Webb's Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia September (No.25CC) - Vol.2:

This is probably the strangest thing you’ll see on Instagram today from an automotive photographer’s post: this is a 1960’s Electric Car Company Shopper FG-75, which was built by the Electric Car Company of California, Long Beach.

It’s a 2-seater fibreglass minicar that is the only one of its kind in New Zealand! Which is quite surprising, because only about 15-50 surviving examples remain these days!

It’s powered by a 1.5 hp, 24V series-wound DC electric motor, and only weighs 318 kg. As it is a neighbourly electric vehicle (NEV), its top speed is only 29 kph with a range of just 56 kms!

Webb's Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia September (No.25CC) - Vol.1:

This is a 1989 Nissan Skyline GT-R (BNR32) in AH3 Pearl Red Metallic, which makes it 1 of 759 in this spec!

It’s powered by a 2.6 L RB26DETT inline 6, making 276 hp (under the Gentleman’s Agreement) & 353Nm of torque!

It can do a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 8:22.38, 0.6 seconds faster than a Mark VI VW Golf R, the B8 Audi S4 Avant & the 2013 Mini Cooper JCW GP!
