I am a travel and landscape photographer from the United States currently living in Auckland, New Zealand. My love of nature and the outdoors stems from living most of my life in Grand Rapids, Michigan. But, the more I travel, the more I'm captivated by the unique and ever-changing landscapes this world has to offer. Photography is my way of capturing the visible, and often subtle, beauty of the w

orld around us. Although I have always enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, and canoeing, I have only recently begun visually documenting my adventures. An introductory photography class in college first sparked my interest in photography. It was not until years later, before my wife and I moved to Finland, that I began pursuing it in earnest. What started as a way to share our adventures with family and friends became a professional passion. The locations of my photos now range from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Turkey, Italy, Scotland, London, Greece, New Zealand, Denmark, Spain and the United States with many upcoming photography trips planned for the next year. If you would like to work with me or use my images for commercial or non-commercial use contact me at [email protected]. Thanks for following and as always feel free to share my work!

I’ve had the opportunity to travel New Caledonia quite extensively and I’m always excited to go back. Being a small island that sits near Australia and New Zealand it’s often overlooked but worth a trip if you are ever in this part of the world.

It’s never easy to leave my warm quilt before dawn. It’s only the thought of an epic sunrise with and that gets me out of the tent while the stars still flicker in the black night sky. We sleepily tramp down to the beach, armed with shovels and towels and hot coffee. We’re greeted by a slight glow on the horizon, the sound of crashing waves, and a heavy mist of salty ocean spray. As we walk down the beach my feet start to feel numb from the cold sand between my toes. I’m immersed in the sounds and smells of the ocean. Suddenly my feet feel the warmth of geothermal water just underneath the sand. We’ve arrived! We get our shovels in hand and begin to dig and form our hot pool. Sitting in the thermal water drinking a cup of coffee and watching the sunrise makes all the effort worth it. To date this is one of the most unique ways I’ve spent watching the sunrise.

When it comes to photographing there’s nothing I like more than a good last minute photo adventure. Within minutes of our first text said “yes” and we were on location within a few hours. Despite walking away with some great images, there were a few set backs, including a cave rave being setup as we arrived🤦🏼‍♂️, Joel’s shoes being stolen, and random visits from drunk ravers as we proceeded to photograph for no less than 8 hours. All in all I’d say it was a successful night.

Being locked down really makes me miss the beauty of New Zealand’s South Island! I’ve been wanting to get back down to Milford Sound for a while now so I thought I’d revisit some of my older images from last year. nz .collective

Two years living in New Zealand and I was finally able to make it to this incredible place. Perched up in the mountains the views are absolutely stunning and after sunset the stars were the best I’ve ever seen.
