Lots of photographers will say please don't worry about your kids at a photoshoot. Easier said than done right. Parents get anxious especially when the shoot is for a special occassion.

And what about if the child is uncomfortable, shy or overwhelmed?

My approach is based on a life lived with a neurodivergent child and being neurodiverse myself.

Now, I am no saint. I have had countless moments where I have not been patient with my own child, but when it comes to your child I really want you to know that we CAN and WILL get beautiful photos. The photos may well be ones you do not expect. They may NOT be the group ones. Your child deserves the time and space to ease into a photoshoot.

It is therefore important to communicate ahead of time about the needs of your child. Advocate for them and then we can all have the appropriate expectations of the photoshoot.
