Three generations of farming at Pensarne and two generations holding legacy albums. There’s something very special and significant about seeing Mother and Son holding these together, each album unique and telling their own family story.

Aaron’s Grandparents established the multi-generational Okaiawa farm in Taranaki. We loved the beautiful Jersey cattle and exploring the farm with Aaron, Ella, and their 3 kids. One of our favourite photos is the classic Landrover with the kids… perfect with the good ole kiwi red bands!!

We hear they breed them tough on the coast, and it’s definitely true with the 5th generation farming family - the Coates.

We headed to the most isolated part of the country that we have travelled to for our farms of New Zealand project. The Haupiri scenes were equal measure wildly rugged and breathtakingly beautiful. We had an incredible day with Willie, Michelle, Annabelle and Felicity, and rain hung heavy in the clouds above, until just as Willie predicted, the heavens opened. It poured as only the coasters know.

Nothing quite like a bit of West Coast hospitality before you hit the winding road again. Damn good Pikelets, Michelle!

More and more often, we are photographing families at their homes, and we find something magical in being there.

Wandering around and seeing the special spots that look a particular sort of perfect at the time of year we are there for the photos—having the family cat wander in the way cats do, on their own terms, and being able to bring out whatever toys may be within the shed.

Finding places that, when imagined through our eyes, become unique. A location that is just theirs, just one family’s special haven that they all call HOME. ☺️

Louise is a farm girl through and through and utterly thrives in the outdoors.

At 2 years old, she loves everything about the farm, is a curious explorer, and is very happy. Pure delight to photograph!

It’s hard to fathom that George could be 96 years old; it must have been the outdoor farm life that has kept him looking so young!

Now, 70 years after he and his wife Lyn purchased their farm, here’s George back in the cow shed! Next-generation Ruth took the reins many years ago.

We love these photos, layers of story and connection - with outstandingly good people.

As a female in the 1980s, going into the family farm was a long way from a typical path, but with the strong support of her mum and dad, who had had the farm since 1955, along with her husband Richard, who works off the farm, Ruth’s dreams became reality. And now Megan and husband Dylan follow Ruth’s footsteps.

The relaxed nature of this family extended to their calm and friendly demeanours, but don’t let that fool you - the Fitzgerald family is a full-on bunch that’s for sure! Their dogs were many, and always watching. Very much part of the family. And here they are, gracing every one of them in these photos—just a handful of favourites from a very memorable photo shoot at this family farm in Methven.
