~ Planet High Street ~

Feeling very humbled by the huge success of my 360 on High Street. I certainly didn't expect it and didn't realise how emotional people would feel about it.

I want to thank everyone that took the time to view, like, comment and share this image as well as all the new people that liked my page.

I haven't been able to reply to everyone or even read all the comments although I tried.

Here is the "little planet" version of it which was why I took the 360 for in the first place :-)

Kia Kaha Christchurch!

Looks like people quite enjoy the 360s and not getting sick of them just yet.
Here is a more challenging one from a couple of weeks ago at Motukiekie beach on the West Coast.

Not only you have to get there at the right time of the year for the Milky Way to be at the right place, you also need to Moon to be at the right phase, the tide to be out and most importantly, a clear night as well!

24 images panorama taken with Canon 6D and Sigma 20/f1.4.

Almost a "summer" night tonight! 16 degrees at 9pm in the middle of winter!

Anyway, had some fun taking the Christchurch Photographic Society for a bit of night photography around S**g Pile and Cave Rock.

Here is my effort for the night.

I guess by now most of you have seen the new interactive 360 images capability in Facebook.

I used to do 360x180 panoramas quite a bit 6-8 years ago but displaying them was always an issue. Digging some up now from the archive so you guys can enjoy and hopefully will be shooting some new ones too!

Not many people do the full 180 degrees vertically so do make sure to look up and down too!

~ Milky Way over Motukiekie ~

Feel free to share

I've been wanting to make this shot for over a year now. Finally, this weekend all the conditions were right and I was very lucky to get 3 nights in a row of clear skies on my first attempt which is quite unusual for the West Coast.

This is just a teaser and have many more panoramas under my sleeve so stay tuned for more!

WARNING! If you attempt to copy this or just take photos of Motukiekie by night, please be aware this is a dangerous place to venture to in the dark. Only after careful planning and scouting was I confident enough to do it as I knew when and where to go. You only have a couple of hours window around low tide and can easily get stranded or washed away by a rogue wave.

If you're keen to learn about astrophotography, please see our workshops on Nightscapes page.

Sorting through the few panoramas I managed to grab while running our Nightscapes astrophotography workshop last weekend. And what a weekend it was! Clear skies, great participants and almost above 0 degrees at night.
Looking forward to running the next one in July.

I was shooting a 270 degrees panorama when I thought, heck, why not just do 360. Only later I thought it would make a nice little planet. Haven't done these for a while and always wanted to do one with the Milky Way.
