Wow, the response to my reel about how to make your own baby wipes has been SO satisfying! 🥹💚
I’m genuinely so pumped to get this information out there. Thank you so much for sharing it, trying it, and embracing it.
I’m really passionate about trying to do things more sustainably around the home, but let’s be real... it’s never truly easy, and none of us can do everything. I am absolutely no hero in that department 😂 There are still a million things I could personally do better in my own home.
But these baby wipes?
They made me ridiculously happy 😃
And seeing SO MANY OF YOU loving the idea, trying them, and getting excited about them too honestly warms my little op-shopping heart.
I worked in conjunction with Dunedin City Council to run a workshop where I showed participants how to make my homemade baby wipes in person, and it was SO much fun. The photos below are from that workshop 💚
We each made 3 potions to take home, and we also made extra batches to donate to Pregnancy Help Ōtepoti Dunedin for expecting and young parents.
Honestly such a cool day.
And honestly?
These baby wipes are SO good.
A few answers to questions from the reel thread:
✨Do they perforate easily?
Totally. They actually work BETTER than store-bought baby wipes.
✨Do you have to use essential oils?
Absolutely not. In fact, I often didn’t. You can literally make these with just hot water and a big dollop of coconut oil.
“Back in my day we only used a rag...”
Yep, I know times have changed substantially. And yes, I also used reusable flannels at home when I could.
But these homemade wipes were AMAZING for the car, the pram, forest adventures, road trips, messy playground snacks, and all the chaos that comes with parenting. 🤸🏽♂️🙌
✨ Why cant I flush them down the toilet?
Because paper towels are designed to stay strong when wet, unlike toilet paper which breaks down super quickly in water.
Even if they feel soft like wipes, they don’t disintegrate properly once flushed. They can clog household pipes, jam pumps, and contribute to giant sewer blockages called “fatbergs” 🤢
As someone who literally owned a poo business… trust me on this one 😂
✨Can I use an old Huggies container?
Yip, absolutely! You can make them in heaps of different containers.
I used the Sistema container because it fit an entire roll of paper towels and would last me a week or two before I needed to make another batch 😌
But smaller containers work perfectly too. If you use a Huggies container, just unravel the paper towels neatly into the container, pour the potion over the top and ta-da ✨
I’d also make mini batches by tearing off 5 paper towels, pouring the potion over them in a bowl, squeezing out excess moisture, and popping them into a ziplock bag for all-day forest adventures 🌿
Anyway. Go hard with the baby wipes 😂
Thank you genuinely so much for all the love on this reel. It honestly means a lot 💚
