Kia ora koutou, it’s been a while since I’ve shared here, but the camera hasn’t been far from my hands.

Over the past few months I’ve been had the pleasure of supporting two local festivals, award ceremonies and symposiums, capturing stories that connect people, place and culture.

I’m looking forward to sharing more of that work here, along with new offerings that blend photography, live social storytelling and marketing support.

2024 Kā Rikarika a Tāne - Award Ceremony Dinner

The pursuit of knowledge is that much harder when you are away from home, friends and family. The amazing team at the Māori Centre / Te Huka Mātauraka know all about this, and have long been providing a tuakana/teina programme to help guide students through their learning journey.

Last Friday the 2024 Kā Rikarika a Tāne students celebrated their successes this year at the annual award ceremony dinner.

E ngā ringawhero, e ngā whetū tārake, e ngā korokoro tūī, mokori anō kia rere a mihi, ā, e rere kau ana ngā mihi ki a koutou. Me kore ake koutou hei ngahau mā i a mātou ki Otago Polyfest i tērā wiki.

Thank you to all the performers that took to the Otago Polyfest stage in Ōtepoti last week. It's not easy to get up on stage, especially for the first time. From the well practiced to the first timers, all groups should be proud. It was beautiful to see our Māori and Pasifika cultures shared and celebrated with the community.

Well done to all the tutors, whanau and kaimahi that made this happen again this year.

Over 1000 photos from evening performances will be sent to each school for parents and whanau. Tag me in when you get yours, so I can see which one you chose to share. Here are some of my favourites.

Whakapōtaetanga Māori ki Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka I Māori Graduation at the University of Otago

Punch for a Purpose 2 - Ōtepoti Boxing Club

16 fighters took to the ring last Saturday, at the Dunedin Town Hall. After 10 weeks of training, fighters put on a show like I have never seen. With a full house on their feet, the crowd moved in support of the fighters efforts, hanging over the balcony to shout instructions and words of encouragement. The sound is something I didn't capture. But if this is sport photography, I think I'm in.

Raising funds for su***de prevention made it all the more meaningful. Too many people have been lost to us in this way, and my heart goes out to friends and family that have experienced this kind of loss.

A huge thank you to Chase and the team at Ōtepoti Boxing Club, for this amazing event and all the work you do daily in our community.

Ka mahi te tawa uho ki te riri.
