One of my favourite things is building sessions around the stuff you actually love doing together. Surfing, camping, baking, fishing, collecting shells.. bring it on. Those little family traditions are what make your photos feel like your story instead of just a pretty location.

Oh, how I loved my Creative Winter Sessions this year.

There were so many little ideas I’ve been dreaming about, and this winter I got to bring them to life. Every single family made the concepts their own.

Looking through these galleries makes me so happy. Not just because they’re beautiful, but because they’re full of little moments that I know will only become more precious with time.

The most soulful mama and daughter session.
When this enquiry landed in my inbox, I think I replied in record time. “We’re after something magical. Whimsical. A little bit witchy.”
Hell yes, I’m on my way!

One thing I always notice is that if I start searching Pinterest for inspo and can’t find a single reference - that’s when I know I’m doing something truly special.

I never want to go down the full on cosplay route. I’d much rather create something that just feels magical. The light, the colours, the atmosphere, the connection. All the little things that make you look at a photo and feel like you’ve stepped into another world for a second.

I had so much fun creating this one.

It’s been about a year since I completely changed the way I approach editing.

No more retouching, no crazy colour changes, no unnatural skies. I keep it true, cinematic, a little nostalgic.

90% of the work still happens in-camera. And I’m convinced that if a photo doesn’t evoke any emotion in you straight off-camera, no amount of editing will fix that.

But I do looove the slight emotional emphasis that the right amount of editing can bring.
