A Practical Resource for Inclusive Playgrounds in Your Community
Dear Team,
My name is Glen McMillan, CEO of Children with Disability NZ (CC59148), a New Zealand-based charity dedicated to promoting inclusion and improving outcomes for disabled children and their families.
As someone who has lived with a severe disability since childhood, I bring a lived-experience perspective to everything we create.
Through our charity, we have developed two national online platforms designed to support communities, families, and councils in creating more inclusive play environments.

🌏 1. A Resource for the Public
Accessible Playgrounds NZ
Google us
This website helps families find playgrounds where all children can play together, regardless of ability. It is designed as a practical, easy-to-use guide showcasing inclusive and wheelchair-accessible playgrounds across New Zealand.

🛝 2. A Resource for Councils & Planners
Inclusive Playground Equipment NZ
Google Us
This platform provides guidance on inclusive playground design, equipment, and best practices. It is specifically intended for councils, schools, community groups, and playground providers seeking to create spaces that are truly accessible and welcoming for all children.

💡 Why This Matters
Every child deserves the opportunity to play, connect, and feel included. However, many playgrounds still present barriers for disabled children and their families.
Both websites are designed as free information services, helping bridge that gap by combining:
• Practical design guidance
• Real-world lived experience
• Examples of inclusive solutions

🤝 How Councils Can Use These Resources
We would welcome your council:
• Using these platforms as reference tools for future playground projects
• Sharing Accessible Playgrounds NZ with your local community
• Engaging with inclusive design principles early in planning stages

I would greatly appreciate you taking a few minutes to explore these resources. I would also welcome the opportunity to support your team or contribute insights to future projects.
Thank you for the important role you play in shaping inclusive communities.
“Inclusive play is not a luxury — it is a fundamental part of building communities where every child belongs.”
Kind regards,
Glen McMillan
