Today we arrived back from Lake Okareka. We spent 4 days on our Broome Family Holiday. All our 5 chilren and wives and husbands and grandkids. What a MOB ! Jonny and Aleisha took their boat and all the other kids took their jet skis and we has a wonderful time. We stayed in a book-a-batch just a minute from the beach although the boat ramp was 5 minutes from the house. Okareka is such a beautiful lake, with native bush all around it. Its just over the hill from Lake Tarawera. The boys want to buy the house we stayed in and do it up for a holiday home. Each couple spent an evening cooking tea and they played Warewolf till 10 o'clock in the evening. Tilly came with us and never went out of the yard except on a liesh. We got home about 12.30 pm and we discovered one of the bikes we took was not on the back of the motorhome . . . yikes . . . Judith rang the cleaner and she said it was right at the gate at Okareka. Someone has to go get it next weekend. It must have fallen off going up the drive, it was an accident waiting to happen because the bike-rack has a wrong shaft for those bikes. Next weekend is a long one too, maybe we could find something to do in Rotorua when we go pick it up.

Here then are some of the photos I took over the weekend.

Some candids at Whagamata these holidays Jan 2022. We stayed at Emma and Jacks while they were away at Otautu, we looked after George the bulldog. While we were there, Helen and Jane, and Annie and Neeve stayed too. These were taken with Kodachrome 64 and Fuji Velvia too, can you tell the difference between the two?

ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHY:

The “old” film way, of taking pictures.

There are still many photographers out there doing analog photography but most of the films are now non-existent. Like Kodachrome.

We can still see many of the results on the internet and exhibitions and photos on walls of many of these films, but I’ve just discovered in the digital age, where no film exists, there are copies of the same “recipes” that look exactly like the old film. These can be dialled into modern digital cameras. Look at my B&W shots like Kodak Tri-X 400, which is a film that I never used, but I have seen many of Tri-X’s prints, and these look remarkably like Kodak Tri-X 400.

I have pictures on my wall of shots taken on Kodachrome 25 and Kodachrome 64, these were printed on cibachrome, a special type of printing generation that makes positive images of transparency film.

With digital cameras you can select recipes from pretty much all of these old films and generate picture that look exactly like the old ones. Dialing-in grain, colour, shadow, highlight, etc. There are many more settings that have to be copied in the cameras Image Quality Settings to achieve the exact look of each film. There are over 200 recipes, 7 are programmed in to my camera at one time, these can be deleted and re-programmed with other films at any time.

Some of them are:

Agfa Optima
AgfaChrome RS 100
B&W Superia
Infrared
Classic Chrome
Ektachrome
Ektachrome 100SW, 320T, E100GX

many of the Fujicolours:
Fujichrome Sensia 100
Fujicolor 100 Industrial
Fujicolor Pro 160NS, 400H,
Fujicolor Superior 100, 200, 400 800

Ilford Delta
Ilford HP5

Kadachrome 1
Kodachrome II
Kodachrome 25
Kodachrome 64
Kodacolor (all)
Kodak Gold
Kodak Portra 160
Kodak T-Max 400
Kodak Tri-X 400

Polaroid
Provia
Sepia
Silver Summer

and many, many more . . . there are also programmed into my Fujifilm X-100V Camera, the 7 non-changeable films: Provia Std, Vevia, Astia, Classic Chrome, Pro Neg, Eterna, and Acros. These can be chosen at any time and used to create certain looks for certain photographs. The enjoyment out of getting these different types of films is so exciting, it makes getting out and shooting, a far more wonderful thing to do.

Last week we went to Te Koutu Park to photograph Sunaina. The rain was pouring but we managed to dodge
it in between showers. We had been wanting to do this for ages, so I wasn't going to be dismayed by the rain. Sunaina was Miss India/New Zealand a couple of years ago, she was great in front of the camera!

We are blessed to have these two beautiful grandsons, Zak and Jett. They love riding their bikes down the nearby downhill access way. Earlier this morning we all went on a bike ride, Zak leading the way. Nannie urged Zak to turn around when we got a long way from home but he wanted to keep going. Eventually we got too far for Jett and he conked out completely, so I had to bike home and get the car. We piled the boys into the car with their bikes whilst Nannie rode home on her own! Oh well, we made a memory ...

Tuesday morning, Trefor & I took time out for a bit of street photography. It's been about 3 years or more since we did this last. We did a circuit around the north end CBD and ended up at Machina for a coffee. Here's just a few shots taken with the Fuji X-100F.
