🐦 At Muriwai Gannet Colony, many young gannets leave New Zealand and make an incredible journey across the Tasman Sea to Australia. After the breeding season, fledglings take their first long flight, often traveling thousands of kilometers.

These young birds usually migrate to the eastern and southern coasts of Australia 🇦🇺 , where they spend several years feeding and growing in warmer waters rich with fish. During this time, they do not return to their birthplace.

Once they reach maturity, typically after about three to five years, many fly back to New Zealand 🇳🇿 and often return to the same colony where they were born. This remarkable cycle makes the gannets of Muriwai a powerful symbol of endurance, navigation, and the natural connection between the two countries across the ocean.

Muriwai Gannet Colony හි ජීවත්වෙන තරුණ ගැන්නට් (gannet) පක්ෂීන් බෝකාලය අවසන් වූ පසු, Australia වෙත අතිවිශාල ගමනක් ආරම්භ කරයි. ඔවුන් මුල්වරට දිගු පියාසරයක් කරමින්, කිලෝමීටර් දහස් ගණනක් ඉක්මවා ටස්මන් මුහුද හරහා ගමන් කරයි.

මෙම තරුණ පක්ෂීන් සාමාන්‍යයෙන් ඔස්ට්‍රේලියාවේ 🇦🇺 නැගෙනහිර හා දකුණු වෙරළ ප්‍රදේශවලට ගොස් වසර කිහිපයක් පුරා ආහාර සොයමින් වර්ධනය වේ. මෙම කාලය තුළ ඔවුන් නැවත තම උපන් ස්ථානයට නොඑයි.

වසර 3–5ක් පමණ ගතව පූර්ණ වයසට පැමිණි පසු, ඔවුන් නැවත නවසීලන්තයට 🇳🇿 පියාසර කරමින්, බොහෝවිට තමන් උපන් එකම කොලනියටම ආපසු පැමිණේ. මෙම විශ්මයජනක ජීවන චක්‍රය, ඔවුන්ගේ ශක්තිය, මඟ සොයා ගැනීමේ හැකියාව, සහ මුහුද හරහා රටවල් දෙකක් එකට සම්බන්ධ කරන ස්වභාවධර්මයේ විශාලත්වය පෙන්වයි.
