For the past eight years, I’ve been very fortunate to photograph a family of Ruru / Morepork living around our home here in Kerikeri,Northland, Aotearoa/New Zealand.
I’ve spent many hours watching and photographing this little family, getting to know their habits and capturing some wonderful moments along the way.
I wanted to find a simple way of sharing these special birds with others, so I’ve turned some of my favourite photographs into postcard-size fridge magnets.
Each magnet is $8 and features one of my own photographs of these beautiful New Zealand native birds.

Having a short chat with our male Ruru - The Bandit who often roosts by the path to our sleepout.
He will sometimes choose to face this path but most times has his back to me and will completely ignore my chatter.
Today I was honoured to get his attention.
We have known him and his partner Huia for eight years now.
Spring is here.

The Boss making sure everyone knows he is that.
This scene was just after he and some of his mates downed a huge magpie in front of our house.
They then hounded it and chased it off.
It's nesting time bro,didn't you hear us.
That magpie won't be back.
