This week, our National Sales and Marketing Manager, Jason Weller, published an article in the NZ Sports Turf Institute Turf Managers Journal titled “Understanding Thousand Seed Weight Count for Turf Use.”

You may have heard it said that a heavier bag means more turf seed… but does it?

While seed size can vary, purity and germination have a far greater impact on sowing rates. Jason’s article breaks down these factors and shares recent ryegrass trial comparisons in the current market.

It's been a busy few days at Kimihia with the 2026 DLF Turf demonstrator plots prepped and sown this morning, ready for some autumn TLC.

20 varieties and customer blends were sown as 4m x 3m plots showcasing the best of the best from the DLF stable.

The plot includes our A-LIST certified cultivars and blends, which are perfect for Australasian conditions and purposes.

We capped the plot off with Profile Flexterra HP-FGM Wood Mulch, an advanced hydraulic mulch engineered for superior erosion control and rapid vegetation establishment.

Any late summer rain won’t be moving this seed around! Watch this space...

We are excited to announce the appointment of Jason Weller as DLF Turf Sales and Marketing Manager for Oceania.

Jason is stepping into this role following 18 years with PGG Wrightson Turf, 10 of which as New Zealand Sales and Marketing Manager.

Jason brings a wealth of knowledge to this role, as well as numerous existing positive relationships within the New Zealand Turf industry. We feel Jason will be an asset to DLF, and we have no doubt that he will excel in this role.

Research is to see what everyone else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought.

We had an incredible time hosting the Seeds Research of Oregon (SRO) group at Kimihia Research Facility this week as part of our DLF Oceania Research Tour, in conjunction with Prebbles Turf World.

From exploring our Kimihia research facility and turf trials to meeting our valued suppliers, to finishing up our week in beautiful Hanmer Springs, the SRO attendees experienced a rich week of growth, learning and networking. Peter Griffiths, our Oceania DLF Seeds Sales Manager, led the tour excellently with his contagious passion for research and expertise in the industry.

Thank you to all the SRO members who attended and for making the week a truly enriching experience!

Exciting news from DLF Turf!!

Our very own DLF North America Project Manager, Dr. Leah Brilman, is receiving international recognition for her recent article: How the A-LIST is Unveiling the Path to Turfgrass Sustainability.

Due to the demand for more sustainable practices in the golfing industry, the Alliance for Low Input Sustainable Turf (A-LIST) was established. With it has come the A-LIST Criteria in which cultivars must undergo rigorous testing in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Programme (NTEP) trials, while also excelling in various care levels to be listed.

DLF Turf offers its customers A-LIST certified cultivars. The latest edition of the DLF product guide highlights the A-LIST certified cultivars we possess and offer, which will be released in the upcoming months.
