Last night necessitated a long drive in search of clear skies to watch the full lunar eclipse. A rising full moon obscured by patchy cloud finally gave way to the scene being enveloped in darkness, before thick fog settled in.

Turakirae Head borders the Wellington and Wairarapa districts and is one of the most geologically active areas in New Zealand. The exact location of the photo was previously the beach, having risen 6.5m in the great earthquake of 1855.
