If "double, double toil and trouble" could apply to my computer system then the warning I am giving may be of some slight relief. For the past three weeks my main edit and graphics computer has been down thanks to Microsoft Windows 10.
Despite saying "no" an dozen times to an upgrade from a rock-solid Win 7, Microsoft in its infinite wisdom carried out an unwarranted, unauthorized and unneeded upgrade (I use the term loosely). The result was a machine that would not operate either under 7 or 10.
This required a complete format of the drives on the machine plus re-install of Win 7. From there the slow process of re-installing many, many software programs that I use for photography, design and illustration. oh, I forgot to add that the graphics card crashed as well!
Could this happen to you? If you are running Win 7, 8 or 8.1 yes it could. There is a tiny program called "Never10" designed by someone who also got caught. This simply sits on your computer and stops the Win 10 upgrade from going ahead until you want it to. I now have it running on all my Windows machines that are pre: Win 10.
The positive was that all my data is backed up on two separate hard drives, and my second computer can take over- though so much slower. Could you be caught in this situation, and if so are you prepared with a back-up plan?
