Making the most of working in Greymouth for a couple of days, I managed to dust the camera off and pay a long awaited visit back to Motukiekie rocks on Friday night.

I’d like to dedicate this image to , who I found out sadly passed away a few months back. Shane was a photography legend in Port Stephens - NSW and gave me so much advice on local spots to shoot when we were living there for a few months. Seascapes were his speciality. He always said he was going to do a New Zealand photography trip. I think he would have particularly loved this location. Rest in peace mate and condolences to your family.

Sleep is pretty valuable in our household at the moment as we have a 1 month old, but i’m glad I stuck to the plan and went out last night to capture the stars for the first time in over a year. It also justified my decision to lug my heavy star tracker up from Nelson 😅

About 30 mins after i took this panorama, it bucketed down, so I definitely lucked out getting such a small window of clear skies and being able to experience such intense green air glow.

I love seeing the islands lined up from this angle.

The Ruru I have been checking in on throughout the year posing in amongst some Punga - unofficially named Old Faithful, as more often than not it is in its favourite spot.

Hoping we see some chicks in the coming weeks as I believe this one is currently nesting (although I don't know where exactly).

A Kārearea / Falcon stops for a spot of lunch in the , with its partner out of frame under a nearby log, sitting on the nest.

I'm definitely going to be monitoring this spot over the coming weeks!

Comet C/2023 A3 from the top of the Takaka Hill last night (Saturday 19th October).

Not a whole lot to see with the naked eye but a real buzz to see it captured on the back of the camera lens.

I purposely left all the satellites in on the selfie image to show how many satellites are polluting the night sky these days ☹️
