Elated to be one of four Taranaki Mฤori artists invited to create an artwork representing a tลซpuna, exhibited alongside the touring Kiingi Tuheitia Portraiture Award exhibition, on show now until 1 November at Puke Ariki Museum, Ngฤmotu New Plymouth.

It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout for the pลwhiri welcoming representatives of the Kiingitanga and the National Portrait Gallery, where the biennial award originates.

Dad, now in his 80th year, is featured with our beloved 18-year-old Shih Tzuโ€“Papillon, Coco, who sadly passed away just last week.

If youโ€™re in Ngฤmotu, I hope you get the opportunity to experience this remarkable exhibition.

A chance to breathe in the goodness of our Taranaki taiao with an adventure to the Hangataahua - where in ancient times our Te Kฤhui Maunga people once lived, having migrated from the central plateau. The calling to come here was so strong, even though I had other plans and the windy forecast said there would be 14km/hr winds.

On arrival astonishingly the gusts had calmed and although the mission required some โ€˜character buildingโ€™ soft sand walking and navigating around driftwood carrying heavy back packs, the experience was so grounding and awe inspiring.

Was stoked that my whanaunga Paula Koot came along too. We said karakia before our hikoi and visioned for an incredible view at dusk as there was currently a bit of low cloud over parts of Koro Taranaki Maunga.

At sunset the view was so clear ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฝ and the snow turned from crisp white to subtle golden and then after the cloud covered the sun ๐Ÿซฃ ๐ŸŒฅ๏ธ๐ŸŒฅ๏ธ on the horizon we still got to witness a magnificent moving spotlight of pink rising up the peak, set to glowing skiesโ€ฆ such joy.

Ngฤ mihi nui - a big thankyou to Paula for joining me after sheโ€™d already done triathlon training with a bike ride and swim with our Taranaki Toa whฤnau ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ and also for ๐ŸŽฅ behind the scenes footage.
