Rhodes – Rodos Adventure

Seven Springs Valley -- 28 km from Rhodes town. The valley is named after the seven natural springs that create a small tributary of the Loutanis river. Due to its plentiful water supply and humid environment, the area remains lush and green throughout the year, making it an ideal habitat for rare plant species.

The history of the Valley dates back to the 1920s when the Italians utilized the water from springs to supply nearby villages and fields by installing aqueducts. The construction took 11 years to complete, resulting in the capture of the water by a dam, forming a stunning artificial lake. The lake is approximately 1-8m deep and has a length of about 200m.

The tunnel is 185m long, with no lighting. A little wider than a person, and not quite 6feet high….so bent head I went, groping through the dark….(didn’t want to put me cell phone torch on).

It is said that it is customary to go through the tunnel in bare feet [I didn’t know it at the time] ….. I did, and it’s not for the feint-hearted oh yea of tender feet 😊

At the end of the tunnel you have to go 50m on a gravel path to the dam & lake….so I did the “gravel dance”

No signs to say “one way” and I was half way back when others were coming through…… so I pressed myself hard into the wall to let them pass.
