A fun activity from this week in a class session, sometimes it’s easy to forget the power of play and making mistakes to learn.

Ink / watercolour with sponged acrylic through a cool stencil.
(Wondering if I can find some Christmas stencils ASAP!)

I’m a big fan of watercolours as a way to let go.

FLOW & RELAX.

The beauty of allowing the release of control as colours merge feels so great!

As a person who enjoys painting, I’m leaning more into this expressive and colourful style allowing the hues to flow and my breathing to calm.

Remember using creativity as therapy allows you to just make marks on paper, no need for beautiful art … a way to engage with yourself.

Felting … I was introduced to this last month by a friend and ohhhh it’s so fun!
There’s something about the textural quality, the physical movements you do separating the wool and then needling the fibres together.
It’s not messy and a seriously cool way to use this sustainable material.
Thank you for showing me this new craft … like I needed another!
Cannot wait to make little creatures with clients in the future 💛

Rainbow wool helped us create a web of connection in a recent Creative Arts Therapy group session. I’m so grateful to be working with so many incredible people heading into this half of the year. 💛🧶

It’s incredible when you let the arts lead - the bubbling which arises and the subconscious which is allowed to come forth.
-
A personal exploration of mine during a session this week; The small compass which was having difficulty finding its north point and the busy brain circling it.
-
I’m hoping that by showing small examples here you will learn, and perhaps become curious about creative arts therapies.

Recently I watched The Eternal Song and created response art to the feelings of this deeply moving cinematic film.
-
I’m enjoying the process of allowing art to speak, it’s truly amazing seeing it working not only within my practice but all over the globe.
-
One of my lecturers always reminds us that in a session, there is a therapist, there is a client but there’s also a third attendee; and that is the ‘arts’. I love this!

Someone drew this for me to find at the beach this morning. What a gift!
-
The koru / spiral shape has many significant meanings. Some of which are representing new life, and unfurling, or for me a new day. The circular motion symbolises the cycle of life and the inward coil re-centres us individually.
-
The spiral also has other indigenous meanings, in Australia it can also be symbol of water, and also has significance in dreaming stories depending on their location.
-
Seeing a symbol like this often awakens something inside of us. I loved receiving it this morning, and hope that it can bring some meaning to someone else by sharing it here.

Watercolour’s and salt.
🧂

Fitting for a reflection on a WILD storytelling from LOST AT SEA.
This interview on the .podcast PODCAST will BLOW your mind.
Highlighting the beauty of nature and our human instinct to survive. Grief, acceptance and so much more.
-
I’m a huge fan of listening to podcasts, but also like to take time after to journal and reflect on these gifted stories to let them REALLY sink in.
-
Highly suggest a listen, it’s just 2 episodes.
Season 6. Ep 8 & 9 🌊

I know Mondays are hard for some.
Thought I’d share this fun practice I’ve been playing with this year … collage thanks to Pinterest.
-
A change to regular journaling, these are the things I’m grateful for on this particular Monday.
(Tennis, sunshine, seasons, fresh fruit, water, a comfortable bed, tacos for dinner & so much more!!!)
-
Having a visual representation can change your outlook.
-
What are you thankful for in this present moment?

Despite being an ‘artist’ in one facet of my life, becoming a Creative Art Therapist is teaching me more about enjoying this process of just creating.
💛
Making marks, letting it flow and seeing what unfolds.
I understand this is a scary concept if you are person who believes they are not creative (that’s a lie FYI, everyone is inherently creative).
🌺
Paper, inks and water here and look at this that evolved.
It’s not for anything or anyone in particular, except for me. This is the best part about Creative Arts joint with Therapy.
