For me photography is all about the momories made along the way to capture the photo... The moments I spend getting to the location, who I'm spending those moments with and what I feel in that specific moment. 🀩

So yes, I drove an hour and a half and walked about 20min (in what must be one of the most beautiful bushwalks!😱) to get the this waterfall in soft light at sunset, but I had the great company of my dear friend and fellow photographer with me and even though all the clouds were gone and I didn't get the photo I had in mind for Omaru Falls, it was still 100% worth it! We walked back to the car in the dark with our headlamps on, had burgers while driving back home and talked about our next adventures.

Do you have any adventures planned for 2024? I'd love to hear about it! 😁

This is home πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

This is where I spent most of my childhood years and would never have thought all I'd want to do one day was take photos of how beautiful it is 😱

We got to go 'home' for the first time in four and a half years last year and it's weird how you remember things to be different as to what it's really like... I was planning on all these landscape photos I was going to take of my beautiful home country, but the moment we arrived I realised how unrealistic I'd been. This is South Africa! Not New Zealand! I can't just go stand next to the side of the road by myself at rediculous hours of the day/night for the perfect photo! 😱

Luckily the grandparents were more than happy to take care if our little one for a couple of hours so I dragged my husband along with me to the Shelley Point Lighthouse for a photo at sunset. I'd forgotten how absolutely clear most nights are in South Africa (especially in summer!) I'm really hoping to get a milkyway photo with this lighthouse when we visit again later this year...

This one's been in an unedited folder on my laptop for a while...

I had a very different composition in my mind for this location, but unfortunately the conditions weren't in my favour! I was planning on taking a longexposure right at the very end of this jetty where parts of it had fallen away, but on this particular day it was extremely windy and even though I could hold my tripod tight enough to prevent motion blur, the fallen structure was moving and ruined the photo!

It was my only morning in the area so I tried to make the best of it and settled on capturing the entire scene. It looks so tranquil in the photo even though I felt like I was about to get blown off the jetty, holding onto my tripod for dear life to avoid any blur before the colours dissappeared with sunrise πŸŒ…

Okay, so I've been a "bit" MIA to put it lightly... I haven't posted anything in over a year!

Who would've known having our beautiful little girl last year September would put landscape photography on the backfoot for a bit... πŸ™„ The last year my photography has gone from landscapes only to baby portraits and now that lil miss is getting older she's decided that she'd rather move very quickly than look cute for my camera so I'm back to making time for my landscapes and I've missed it so much more than I realised 😱

This is an old photo I found, one of the last one's if not the last one I took before my landscapes break last year. My husband and I went on a babymoon, I love hot pools, but being pregnant I couldn't be spending time in hot pools for very long except this one! If you've never been, I can highly recommend where you can adjust the water temperature of your private pool and have a beautiful view! I've always found geothermal activity fascinating and just had to do the geothermal bush walk which is where this photo was taken.

A sky full of emotion! β˜”

It started raining just before taking this photo and seconds later it suddenly stopped and the sun pushed its way into the scene. It was absolutely magical β˜€οΈ

Went camping for ten days in the Coromandel and saw some stunner sunsets! πŸŒ…

It was the longest camping mission I've had since school... I remember camping for two weeks at Christmas time as a kid, then university, work and life happened and waking up in a tent turned into a luxury on our weekends off... πŸ•οΈ

✨ Here's to making more time to do the things that we love ✨

Getting up at 3am turned out to be totally worth it πŸ‘ŒπŸ» I had Blue Springs all to myself!

This is not the shot I had planned for... πŸ™„ the clouds (they were perfect!😩) dissipated 10min after I arrived at the car park and I considered taking a nap in my car instead πŸ˜‚, but I've been wanting to capture Blue Springs at sunrise for months and this was it so I speedwalked along the track desperate to find a composition before sunriseπŸŒ„

Here's to hoping 2022 will be full of beautiful sunrisesπŸ₯‚πŸŽ‰ Happy New year!

Capturing the milkyway at Te Awa Cycle bridge a couple of weeks ago was total bliss, I was buzzing so much afterwards that I hardly slept at all and was completely exhausted by the time my alarm went off to get up for work, but it was totally worth it!

Seeing a photo of the milkyway always amazes me, now even more so knowing how much planning goes into it... Yes, it's more than just pointing the camera up into the night sky. You need a clear night, a location with low to no light pollution, plan your location (a place where you'd have a nice foreground, but also a place where you'd be able to see the milkyway), plan what time the milkyway will be exactly where you'd like it to be, remember your tripod πŸ˜‚ and also make sure there is no moon, or the moon only rises later or sets earlier! Yes, you guessed it... My planning was not perfect 😏 I did all of the homework, but somehow missed that the moon would be exactly where I was planning on capturing the milkyway and I was so upset with myself! (sure won't happen again!πŸ™„) for this composition I was planning on taking the photo earlier with the milkyway sideways, but the moon was in the way and it ruined the photos so I had to wait for the moon to fall exactly behind the bridge to diffuse some of its light and by then the milkyway was pretty horizontal already, but at least still fit into the frame with the foreground I wanted. Now I'll have to wait till next season to do this properly πŸ˜‚

Made a quick stop at McLaren Falls on my way back to Hamilton yesterday afternoon.

I normally make an effort to see the water release from here, it never seems to get old, but last night I was curious to see how far you can walk and it was magical! I love how small nature makes us as humans lookπŸ₯°
