Winner of the (not) Making An Impact Award at the 2026 festival!!!
I can finally share that my sequel film, Greensteam, More Than A Movement has been selected for the 2026 NZ Mountain Film Festival, and has won the (not) Making An Impact Award! It will make its world premiere at the festival in June over in Wanaka, where the Greensteam started!
A few years ago, I was introduced to this incredible initiative, made a film about it and helped encourage more people to come give it a go.
Fast forward to September 2025, the event exploded in popularity and really became a social movement, growing to several ski fields and a couple hundred people on bikes giving it a go.
This time, I share a new story about how this grassroots idea has grown from a day out with some friends into a social movement and helped inspire others to try this idea for themselves somewhere new.
I share stories from the “OG Greensteamers” and then interview Juliet, who decided after seeing my first film about the Greensteam, that she wanted to give it a go herself and host her own Greensteam to spread the message to another mountain closer to her.
In this film, I aim to show that with a little inspiration, regular everyday people can make a change and do some good for the environment and for their community when it comes to finding different ways to access the outdoors.
I hope to encourage conversation around better ways to get to the snow (perfect timing with Queenstown finally considering building gondola systems to get around!) and to encourage people to speak up in your community to make the changes you want to see.
Whether it’s convincing council to build a set of bike lanes leading to the ski fields, or raising funds for more efficient bus systems, or developing a gondola network like we see in some European countries…every little bit helps!
Big thanks to the team who helped me capture everything, couldn’t have done it without you!
