Mother duck and ducklings on our pond. The survival rate is low. Within the space of three days her brood has gone from 10 to 2. Today I saw a hawk swoop down and carry one off.😢

2023 BIRDS OF AOTEAROA CALENDAR - only 5 left! First in, first served!
Hi everyone! If you would like to grab a copy of this calendar featuring beautiful photographic bird portraits (photos taken by me) then let me know asap! I won’t be ordering any more. Images are A4 in size with the image and date pages opening out to A3.
The cost for a calendar $20 with $5 from each sale going to BirdCare Aotearoa. I will endeavour to deliver to you personally if you live somewhere I can get to easily otherwise you will need to cover the $8.50 postage. Rural is $4.80 extra. The birds featured are: Korimako, barn owl, tui, white-faced heron, kereru, kingfisher, kea, gannet, ruru, kakariki, silver eye and dotterel. Some sample photos below.

Last December I had the privilege of visiting BirdCare Aotearoa after this wee ruru debuted on national TV. No doubt he has been released back into the wild by now. This organisation does incredible work for sick or injured birds. Please support them. I donate some money from sales of my prints and greeting cards. Anyhow, at the time I only posted one photo, so I thought it timely now to show you a few more! PS I have yet to have the thrill of seeing one in the wild! # birdsonline # _wild_life_ig

“What! Me? Shouting? Get out of here!!” Tauhou just crack me up! They can be so entertaining and fun to photograph them interacting if you are quick enough. When it comes to food they actually are quite aggressive, continually dive bombing one another and swapping places! Haven’t been able to get out and about recently, so have to be content photographing my backyard, feathered friends.

Just squeezed in the NZ Garden Bird Survey this morning. This grumpy fellow turned up amongst mainly sparrows and tauhou. I was a bit disappointed some of our other regulars like the fantail and kingfisher didn’t show! # birdsonline
