Before the landscapes, there were crime scenes.
I spent years as a forensic photographer with the NZ Police. Nine of us, covering Auckland. If you can imagine it, I likely photographed it.
It was the most demanding photographic education I could have received - and I didn't know it at the time.
Film, not digital. One chance, every single time, to capture everything. No checking the back of the camera. You just had to know.
That training never leaves you.
The subjects are different now. The stillness is different. But the eye is the same eye.
