5 years ago, I picked up a professional camera for the first time when my high school teacher asked me to photograph Smokefree Rockquest (even though I had never used a camera before in my life.) I almost said no because I was so scared of messing up, but I convinced a classmate to do it with me so I wouldn’t be as nervous. 😅
After that first shoot, I realised I actually had a good eye for photography. The photos were pretty good for a first timer. From there on, I kept asking to do more shoots with that same teacher, Tamsin Wilson, who I now call my photo mum and mentor. She trusted me with her equipment, taught me Lightroom, and helped me understand the exposure triangle, until I eventually found my own way into photography and realised this was something I loved, and something I could turn into a career.
Now here we are. 5 years after picking up a camera, and 3 years of studying photography, I’ve graduated with a Bachelor of Design, majoring in Photography.⭐️
It’s been such a journey, and I’m SO grateful for everyone who helped me get here. I can’t wait to see where I go next with my camera. Thank god I didn’t say no to that first opportunity just because I was scared. I think that’s something I’ll always carry with me. If it scares you, do it anyway. 🙏
