Scouring Google Maps I spotted a group of small lakes in behind Castle Hill in Canterbury. Sometimes these little lakes can be surrounded by thick bush and difficult to photograph so it was important to delve a bit deeper and find some photos on blogs and/or social media before making the long drive

Started the long weekend with a sunrise jaunt out to the Arthur's Pass region this morning. It was my first trip here and it required a few stops to open and close farm gates before reaching the 'carpark'.

The only people you're likely to see out here are fishermen, especially at this time of the day. I received a friendly wave from two of them as I left the area.

I can imagine this place would look even better in the depths of winter with snow-capped mountains but my 2WD Toyota Fielder might struggle in winter conditions.

Lake Lyndon - Canterbury

A 7km round trip (including fluffing around up near the Trig) up Starvation Hill in the late afternoon sun on the weekend.

Last weekend I drove out to Mount Somers and wandered up to Woolshed Creek hut with Josh. It was a 9km there-and-back walk with a bit of time spent fluffing around the tops taking photos. There's so much to explore out that way, think I'll be out there again this weekend. Might check out Lake Emily.
