My favourite part of a wedding is all the congratulations and hugs after your ceremony!

I think a lot of couples are inclined to rush through this to get to family and group photos, but if you want candid, joyful, happy moments captured at your wedding protect this time, it's absolute documentary photographer gold.

I always put congrats into your timeline, it's emotional, it's important, and it's gone in a blink. We'll get to your group and family photos in a minute.

Save this if you're looking for your wedding photographer.

Chyi & Ju Lian are in it for keeps and wanted some sweet couple photos to preserve this chapter. Chilling in their first home together, with their cat, hitting up sentimental landmarks from when they first started dating. Wanting to remember these days.

Other reasons to get a couple shoot:
You're engaged and you'd like some cool photos for your invites and wedding website.
You only have selfies together.
It's your anniversary.
Surprise proposal! (Sarah's hiding in a bush with her paparazzi lens)
You're camera shy and need some exposure therapy before your wedding day.
You really want couple photos at a very special/breathtaking/requires a hike to get to, place that feels like you two.
Just because.

Photographed on a mix of 35mm Film and digital. In Lower Hutt and Wellington. Spring is a really nice time of year for a couple shoot. DM me if you'd like one.

Dreaming of this warm summer night at Laurie & Francey's Boomrock wedding. They married on that stunning Wellington coastline, with their daughters running about living their flower girl dreams. Having a group sing along instead of a first dance. A big celebration of the life they built together.

Like many of my couples the wedding comes after careers, a house, kids, pets. I like to call weddings that happen years into the relationship the cherry on top. Watching couples look around a room of family and friends who are there to support & celebrate them never gets old.

If you're planning your wedding, I have 2027 datesavailable. Link is in my bio.

Two siblings. Two weddings. One photographer.

Chelsea & Kyle had an intimate Elopement with just their immediate families in attendance. A very sweet ceremony, and couple photos around Wellington Botantic gardens. Chelseas brother Mitchell and his partner Rachel were there.

A few months later I met Mitchell & Rachel for a beer and wedding photography chat after they enquired and had a 'wait a sec! I already know you.' moment. (I had not connected the dots from their inquiry email.)

Almost two years after Chelsea & Kyle Eloped it was Mitchell & Rachel's turn! Their big wedding was at Dockside. It was so nice to be able to check in with everyone again and see them all doing great.

Two very different weddings - both couples that wanted candid, unobtrusive, natural documentary style photos. And a photographer they could trust.

If you're still looking for your photographer, 2027 dates are open, link in bio.

This is what it looks like before the first frame.

I shoot hybrid - digital and film, and the film side of things changes everything about how I move through a day.

Every roll is a commitment so before I raise the camera, I've already seen the moment. I've been watching the room, reading who's about to look at who. Feeling where the energy is building.

Twenty years of this means I know the laugh that's about to break before it does or the look someone's about to give. The hand that's about to reach across the table.

That's what experience actually buys you.

Is wedding planning making you feel quietly overwhelmed? The guest list, the budget, the opinions. What if you just… didn't?

Here are 5 reasons more couples are choosing smaller, more intentional days and why it might be the most 'you' thing you could do.

Save this if you're planning your special day, and DM me if you'd like a stress-free chat around film and/or digital photography options.

Shesh & Ria's Makara wedding was amazing. Makara Church & Hall is such a great venue for a DIY wedding. These two created so much of their day themselves. The labour of love that is drying orange slices in your home and stringing them into garlands. Self-catering pies and salads for a delicious dinner. Ria's mum making all the bouquets & flower arrangements. Regaling the tale of their guelling hike/ proposal story.

A day focused on celebrating with friends and family, and the beginning of everything still to come in their life together.

Shesh & Ria had this vision of epic couple photos at sunset on Makara hill overlooking the Cook Strait. The reality of having to leave their own wedding for a significant amount of time to achieve this meant that a couple of weeks after their wedding... after the family staying with them had trickled away, they got all dressed up again in their wedding clothes and we hiked up Makara hill for a sunset so perfect we had planned it. No time pressures to get back to the wedding, no guilt that you invited all your favourites and then ditched them for a photoshoot. Instead another beautiful chapter to their wedding, and stunning figures in the landscape art for their walls.

“Thank you for all the beautiful photos. I've spent countless hours pouring over them again and again reliving the day. It's so special to have these memories of the wedding, and captured in such a candid way! And thank you for indulging our desire to walk to the top of the hills in Makara - those photos are some of our favourites and we're really glad we decided to go ahead with it!”

If you want a photographer that is fully onboard with realising your vision, and will climb up hills covered in cameras for you, I still have some dates left for summer 2027, early birds for summer 27/28 get in touch! Link in bio to enquire.

“Do I really need photos from the whole day?”
Honestly, no, you don't need me for the whole day - but here's what you might miss.

The getting-ready nerves. Your mum helping you with your jewellery. Your besties going full hype crew pre ceremony. Not a dry eye during speeches. Sunset beach frolics. Getting Gran up on the dance floor.
None of that happens during the ceremony.

Do you think the photos you'll want to hang up on your wall will be from your ceremony? Or do you think the magic might happen in not just the big moments, but in the quiet & chaotic ones. The stuff that only happens when everyone's relaxed, and nobody's aware of the camera.

That's what a full day gives you - the whole story. More opportunities to capture the moments that aren't in the runsheet.

If you're trying to figure out what coverage actually makes sense for your Wellington wedding or elopement, I'm happy to talk it through. DM me or use the link in bio.
