Something a bit different... capturing Wellington's latest visitor... Department of Conservation

A male Leopard Seal which had hauled itself onto Petone Beach in Wellington for a rest accompanied by crowds which had gathered to catch a glimpse of the animal, stopping to watch the seal chilling out in the Capital.

Leopard Seals (Hydrurga leptonyx) are predominantly native to Antarctica and its surrounding pack ice, however they regularly venture north through the Southern Ocean with small numbers being found around New Zealand throughout the year.

Their diet as opportunistic apex predators is wide ranging and they eat a diverse diet including krill, penguins, fish, squid, and a variety of other seal species aswell seal pups. Their only known natural predator is the Orca.

Photo highlights from yesterday's NPC 2026 round 3 clash between the Wellington Lion's and North Harbour.

The Lion's remain winless in this seasons competition following an emphatic display from the visitors in the second half.

North Harbour held a narrow 12-7 lead at the break but the visitors turned the screw on the Lion's in the second half to score 35 unanswered points in what was an devastating display of attacking intent.

Photo highlights from yesterday's Hilux NPC Roound 1 clash between the Wellington Lion's and the Hawkes Bay Magpie's which was played at the Hnry Stadium.

Hawke’s Bay piled on a half-century of points as they began the National Provincial Championship season with an emphatic 52-33 win over the Wellington Lion's

The Magpies raced into a 26-0 lead after just 20 minutes afterwhich the Lions never recovered with the visitors controlling the game superbly with the Lion's never getting to within 12 points.

Photo highlights from last week's Parliament celebration event in Wellington to commemorate the 40th anniversary in Parliament which recognised the political community efforts that achieved reform and advanced LGBTQ+ rights.

The event was hosted by Lynda Topp, with speeches, performances, and reflections honouring the activists and communities behind the reform.

The event also featured various speeches from activists and community leaders, performances by The Glamaphones, TÄ«whanawhana, and Vinyl & Proud, and reflections on the history and ongoing work for LGBTQIA+ rights.

Photo highlights from the 40 Years of Homosexual Law Reform Afternoon Tea event which was held at Government House in Wellington.

The event was held at Government House in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington to commemorate The Homosexual Law Reform Act 1986 and celebrate 40 Years of Love.

The event began with speeches from Dame Cindy, and the Honorable Fran Wild who introduced the bill as a private member's bill in March 1985. This legislation removed criminal sanctions for consensual sexual acts between men and equalized the age of consent.

The event was concluded by a young trans activist who reminded us of the reality of what happens when the basic rights to receive gender affirming healthcare.
