The new Interislander ferries will be a game changer for Aotearoa New Zealand. Innovative, efficient, comfortable, and kinder on the environment, the two hybrid-electric ferries are being purpose-built for the Cook Strait crossing 🛳

They'll offer a fantastic customer experience, with enhanced onboard services and more capacity. Work is underway to redevelop the ferry terminal precincts at Waitohi Picton and Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington to accommodate the new ferries, which will be delivered in 2025 and 2026.

Wellington Zoo was the first in New Zealand to house Meerkats in 1991. Today you can spot our mischievous mob in the African precinct, run by an alpha female and her chosen mate.

Meerkats are carnivorous and mostly eat insects. Our mob also get cat biscuits, small mice and birds, and corn as a treat. On hot days they sometimes get frozen corn iceblocks as a treat!

Did you know that each Meerkat has a special duty that benefits the group? The babysitter stays close to the burrow, with youngsters under their care. The sentry scans the sky for predators, and the hunters dig for food. The teacher shows juveniles how to hunt.

Photographing you guys is so much fun. These photos won't win any awards, but there's 200 of them and if you surfed on Sunday 30/08/2020 when the swell hit around 3:15PM, I probably got you.

Hit me up if you need higher res versions of yourself.

BTW, who is this young man shredding every 2nd wave that made it to shore??

Please please free to tag yourself in the post comments.

Surfing in Lyall Bay is awesome! There's all ages and experience levels out there enjoying this sand break next to the airport just outside the city centre.

St Mary of the Angels is a Catholic church on the corner of Boulcott Street and O'Reily Avenue in Wellington, New Zealand. It is the parish church for Wellington Central and one of the major churches of the city.

Wellington’s St Mary of the Angels is believed to be the world’s first neo-Gothic church built using reinforced concrete construction (McGill 1997). Plans for the church were prepared by architect Frederick de Jersey Clere in 1919. Not only is the church of significant architectural merit, ratified in part by the Category I classification bestowed by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, but it stands today as a testament to the commitment of its owner to maintain and enhance its place in this city’s.

Lyall Bay is a popular beach break close to Wellington, meaning it gets very crowded when it's on. There are several peaks to choose from along the beach. Often the best peak is near the rock wall by the airport, which can dredge up some gnarly take-offs and offer some decent barrels. The Maranui end of the beach picks up more swell angles with some good peaks. On a big swell, the reef on Arthur's Nose can start working.

Caracal
https://panascope.nz/big-cats-lynx/
Tinka and Jasiri are Wellington Zoo’s Caracal sisters, who arrived in 2014 to become New Zealand’s first Caracals and the only Caracals in Australasia.

Watch carefully to spot these striking cats with distinctive large ears in the Grassland Cats habitat, next door to the Servals.

Nocturnal by nature, they tend to be solitary animals, but often live in pairs. Tinka and Jasiri are inseparable and can often be spotted napping together.

Like their Serval neighbours, these amazing athletic cats are able to jump metres into the air to catch prey.

In the wild
IUCN: Least concern

While known as the ‘desert lynx’, Caracals are found throughout Africa, Central Asia, and south-west Asia into India, occupying a vast range of habitats from semi-desert areas to forests.

As they are capable of taking domestic livestock, Caracals sometimes come into conflict with farmers in Namibia and South Africa, where hunting of the species is legal. Habitat destruction is also a significant threat to their Asian range.
