THE PERU BIRD & WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY EXPEDITION | PART 3
Chaparrí Pacific Dry Forest Reserve, Lambayeque by — Where mighty Andean condors and spectacled bears rule the landscape.
🗓️ Our final stop was Chaparrí, a pioneering conservation sanctuary in northern Peru, dedicated to protecting the Andean spectacled bear through rescue, rehabilitation and rewilding, as well as the endangered, endemic White-winged Guan. With over 293 bird species recorded, it’s a remarkable destination for wildlife photography & birdwatching.
🌅 One unforgettable morning inside the vulture hide, we managed to photograph all four vulture species in a single frame: Andean Condor, King Vulture, Turkey Vulture and Black Vulture! A rare photographic opportunity, rewarded with spectacular behavioural moments.
✌️ From Manu Road to the pristine Río Las Piedras and finally Chaparrí, three destinations filled with extraordinary biodiversity and unforgettable encounters.
💚 Seeing our guests Pete and Joss so excited about their photographic discoveries, Peruvian cuisine and culture made this journey even more rewarding. A very special thank you to Pete for gifting me his beautiful book, “Etosha – Waiting for the Rains”, a wonderful tribute to Namibia’s magnificent Etosha National Park. It brought back memories of a few years ago, when Pete personally showed me some of the best locations to photograph its incredible wildlife. A thoughtful gift and a friendship I truly appreciate!
🤙 Special thanks also to Juan Andrés and staff for his dedication and invaluable support throughout this final chapter.
🇵🇪 Three destinations, countless encounters, and memories to last a lifetime. That’s Peru!
