Was going through the Historical Samarai Group Forum and came across this photograph of Samarai Island back in the early 1960's that was captured by Tim Morton's (if that's the owner of the pic).

Did some restoration of the image, cleaning, fine detailing and colour resolution of the image.

The "Pearl Of The Pacific" as was and will always be.

Back August 2022:

Captured Two Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) F-35A Lightning II jet fighters from No. 75 Squadron flew over Alotau on August 27, 2022, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Milne Bay.

Whilst on Woodlark Island back in October 2019, I was invited by the community of Kaurai to attend the United Church Synod that was taking place.

So, I travelled from Guasopa on board a brown Toyota Landcruiser from Guasopa to Kaurai. The journey was bout 2hours cause of the road conditions plus the vehicle gearbox had only 3 gear shifts, (1,2 n 4), "talk bout bush mechanics".

Anyway! It was quite a big event as fellow church groups from Alotau and the islands of Milne Bay sailed to Woodlark to attend.

Pic insert: Captured here is an elderly woman carrying her basket of native food (yams), placed firmly on her head and balanced, walking to the kitchen to prepare meals for the evening.
