The Lae Bowling Club is one of Papua New Guinea’s most historic and premier lawn bowls venues, known for having a superior playing surface and a vibrant role in the local community. Located on Huon Road in Eriku, Lae, it has evolved from a traditional sporting facility into a multi-purpose hub for entertainment, nightlife, and civic events.
Established in 1950 during the colonial era, it holds deep cultural and historical significance for the Morobe Province.
It is highly regarded as the only club in Papua New Guinea to boast three greens, making it a favourite choice for hosting major national tournaments.
The club has a fiercely competitive roster, particularly its women’s divisions. The Lae women’s triples and fours teams frequently sweep national competitions, including recent titles at the 2025 Women's National Fours and the National Triples Championship.
After facing a four-year closure starting in 2018 due to debt, the iconic club was rescued and reopened in late 2022, thanks to a financial bailout from the Lae City Authority, facilitated by local MP John Rosso.
Beyond professional lawn bowls, the venue is a massive focal point for social life in Lae: Operating out of the club, the Lae Bowls Club Legends Bar serves as a lively venue for live music, fundraisers, and community reunions.
