Jerome Luai Tours PNG Chiefs Facilities as Contract Future Remains Unclear
/////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////

By: Michael Tamty Pais

West Tigers captain and Samoa international Jerome Luai is currently in Papua New Guinea, where he is touring facilities linked to the proposed new NRL franchise, the PNG Chiefs.

Luai is understood to be accompanied by the club’s chief executive officer, Lorna MacPherson, and the general manager of football, Michael Chamis.

Luai has a clause in his contract that allows him to extend his deal with the West Tigers and annual " get out " clauses in his favour.

However, at this stage, he is technically a free agent.

His visit and discussions with Chiefs executives have sparked speculation that he could sign with
the PNG-based franchise as their inaugural player.

One possible scenario would see Luai activate his Tigers contract extension for the 2027 season before joining the Chiefs in 2028.

No agreement has been signed at this stage, and Luai’s commitment to the Chiefs has not been confirmed.

If a deal is completed, Luai could become one of the highest-paid players in rugby league.

He is currently earning about $1.2 million per season at the West Tigers, and a comparable contract in Papua New Guinea due to tax-free conditions , would likely be worth significantly more.

Promising Trio Combination for PNG Women's Soccer Team.

By Michael Tamty Pais

After watching this afternoon's Under-16 OFC Championships Qualifier match between PNG and American Samoa, I noticed a powerful combination between these three players from the PNG side.

Anjelika Raminai, currently captaining the PNG Under-16 side, is one of the most promising young midfielders for the PNG women's team. Most of PNG’s eight goals were clearly created through her assists.

Raminai’s ball placement and set-ups perfectly found Oscalina Gunemba and Chriszanne Sifas, who both took their chances well and scored for the PNG side. Sifas finished the match with a hat-trick, while Gunemba scored a double.

This trio is a promising combination for the future of the PNG National Women’s Team and the Bilums.
