Sylvia Pascoe of Pascoe Promotions has publicly declined her nomination for this year's Westpac Outstanding Women's Awards, saying she believes the opportunity should go to someone whose work will benefit more from the recognition.

Pascoe reflected on helping establish the awards years ago before later becoming a recipient herself. She said that recognition gave her the confidence to grow her business and launch community initiatives that have created opportunities for people across Papua New Guinea.

Now, she says she's at a stage in life where another award won't significantly change her future—but it could make a life-changing difference for someone else's project or business.

Her decision is a powerful reminder that leadership isn't always about receiving recognition. Sometimes, it's about stepping aside so others can be seen, celebrated, and empowered to keep making a difference.

She also encouraged Papua New Guineans to look around their workplaces, churches, villages, and communities, and nominate the quiet achievers who are building businesses, creating jobs, and serving others without expecting recognition.

True leadership isn't about collecting awards—it's about creating opportunities for others to shine. 🇵🇬👏
