Over the past quarter, our team has been active on the ground, engaging directly with communities through field visits and ongoing dialogue.

We recently completed a field visit to the Zilani and Pokwana communities as part of our community engagement with the Yanta tribe. The visit focused on WaSH site inspections and preliminary assessments to support improved water and sanitation outcomes, alongside livelihood surveys to better understand local economic activities and opportunities.

We also continued to engage with a wide range of stakeholders through meetings at our Public Information Centre, providing a platform for information sharing, dialogue, and addressing community questions about the project.

These activities reflect our broader efforts, working alongside communities to support sustainable outcomes across health, infrastructure, and economic development.

Out on the road, safety doesn’t just happen; it’s planned, checked, tested, and reinforced. That’s where Rocky Ramona comes in.

With almost 15 years at WGJV, Rocky who comes from Central and Manus provinces, has built his career around one key focus; safety on the road and in the field.

As a Road Traffic Safety Officer, he conducts patrols, vehicle inspections, driver assessments, brake testing, and provides es**rt duties. He plays a critical role in ensuring both people and vehicles move safely across site. Rocky also mentors local watchmen and supports logistics operations, stepping in wherever needed to keep things running smoothly.

“Learning new skills and accepting challenges has helped me grow into a more mature and safety-focused worker,” he says.

His work is grounded in WGJV’s strong safety culture; check and challenge, speak up, and always follow critical controls. “These aren’t just procedures, they’re habits that protect lives. Start safe, work safe, and go home safe.”

Rocky is proud to still be part of the journey and is looking forward to seeing the Wafi-Golpu Project progress into construction and eventually mining.

Thank you Rocky, for your years of service and commitment to keeping our people safe on the road and beyond.

Helping local communities earn sustainable income from farming is a key focus for the WGJV.

Our Mining Chocolate cocoa program has been a great success. Families in the cocoa regions of Lower Watut and rest of Wampar, Mumeng, Salamaua and Labuta are now harvesting and selling cocoa every few weeks.

The WGJV is committed to working alongside local communities to create lasting value, ensuring programs like our cocoa initiative continue to support families and strengthen livelihoods across Papua New Guinea for years to come.

Through our Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) Program, we continue to support improved living standards by delivering essential services such as clean water supply systems, toilets and washing facilities.

In recent weeks, work has progressed in Madzim and Wori villages as part of this year’s WaSH rollout. A water storage tank has been installed near Madzim, and trenches have been completed for pipeline installation as the work moves forward. The project is expected to be completed by the end of May.

Alongside this the WaSH training sessions were successfully delivered in both villages. Community members actively participated in discussions and presentations focused on cleanliness, safe hygiene practices, and the importance of maintaining shared facilities. This is to ensure long-term health benefits and community ownership of the infrastructure.

Since 2019, the Wafi-Golpu Joint Venture has completed 10 WaSH projects across Nambonga, Hekeng, Kapunung, Wonkings, Bavaga, Gingen and Pekumbe villages; continuing our commitment to practical, community-focused development outcomes.

We are pleased see the ongoing roadworks initiative led by the Yanta Landowner Company, connecting remote communities to essential services and improving access within their area.

The pilot track construction, which began at Venembeli Village and heading towards Zilani Village, is a strong example of landowner-driven development in action. The roadworks provide a foundation for a reliable road access connecting the people to health, education and economic opportunities, while supporting long-term community growth.

The Wafi-Golpu Joint Venture commends the Yanta LOA for their commitment and leadership in delivering practical infrastructure outcomes for their communities. They have demonstrated the benefit of wisely investing their Infrastructure Development Grants in heavy equipment that has both enabled this direct development and also ongoing local content income through participation in the DOWH/WGJV/Landowner road maintenance program.

From field samples to data checks and monitoring programs, Fidel Herry makes sure the environment is understood, measured, and protected.

Originally from Manus Province, Fidel has been part of the Wafi-Golpu Joint Venture for six years. As Environment Coordinator Monitoring, he plays a key role in coordinating baseline and monitoring programs, maintaining accurate environmental data, and developing work procedures and protocols that align with international standards.

The values that guide his work every day are care, respect, and high performance; values that underpin both environmental responsibility and teamwork. “I want to be part of a potentially world-class operation and experience the full journey, from baseline studies, through permitting, and eventually into construction and production,” he says.

When it comes to safety, Fidel reminds us that it must be intentional. “Safety should be a conscious effort until it becomes second nature. We should never take incident-free moments for granted; every situation is different.”

Looking ahead, Fidel hopes to see the permitting process completed so that the project can move forward to deliver meaningful economic benefits to the country.

Thank you Fidel for the care and professionalism you bring to protecting the environment and preparing the Wafi-Golpu Project for the future.

The Wafi-Golpu Joint Venture has provided over 300 solar streetlights to surrounding villages, supporting community members who gather for evening activities.

These solar-powered lights have addressed the community's need for reliable nighttime illumination, enabling residents to participate in church services, meetings, and other collective gatherings. Beyond communal events, the lights have facilitated a range of activities including studying, reading, peanut processing, bilum weaving, and providing visibility for home construction projects.

Wafi-Golpu Joint Venture was pleased to participate in this year’s PNG Investment Week, joining industry peers, government representatives, and key stakeholders to highlight the shared value of responsible resource development in Papua New Guinea.

Hosted by the PNG Chamber of Resources & Energy at the International Convention Centre in Sydney, the event provided an opportunity for our WGJV team to showcase the positive impact of our community investment programs. These include agribusiness, health, and education initiatives that are already making a meaningful difference for families and communities within our project footprint. The team also engaged with booth visitors and shared insights about the project’s role in driving future economic growth and development.

As the Wafi-Golpu Project progresses through the permitting phase, we remain committed to open and transparent engagement, working collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver long-term benefits for landowners, Morobe Province and Papua New Guinea.

Thank you to everyone who visited our booth and took the time to engage with us.

If WGJV staff need to get somewhere, there’s a good chance Dephline Nalombari played a part in making it happen.

Dephline plays a vital role as our Project Administration Supervisor, keeping our operations running smoothly behind the scenes. Her work spans across travel coordination, office administration, procurement support, invoice processing, monthly accruals, and being the go-to person when employees need help with admin or HR queries.

From Wewak, East Sepik Province, Dephline has been part of our WGJV family for 12 years. “What keeps me motivated? It’s the people I work with; they motivate me every day,” she says.

“It goes with the company value that’s closest to my heart which is Working Together. When we work together, we reach the targets we set and we do it well.”

Her message on safety is one we can all take home. “Never forget that you are valuable as a person. Think of the people who depend on you. When you take care of yourself and others, you’re adding value to their lives too. Identify hazards, accept corrections, and encourage others to speak up.”

As Wafi-Golpu progresses through the permitting stage, Dephline hopes to see the government fast-track the process so the project can begin operating and contribute to the people and the country. “I am proud to be part of one of the biggest major copper-gold developments in the world.”

Thank you Dephline for your 12 years of committed service. Your reliability and teamwork continue to make a real difference across the project.
