Francis Ona started the war on Bougainville.
In the early days he went on a killing spree, targeting non Bougainvilleans from Papua New Guineans before the PNGDF were sent to Bougainville to capture him.
He and his BRA comrades murdered INNOCENT members of the C.I.S (warders) who had NOTHING to do with the distribution of wealth/shares from the Panguna mine. Nor did they draft the mining policies that determined the amount of royalties paid to land owners and other recipients.
Those killed were Sgt Mathew Saun of Bipi island in Manus Province, Private Lukas Buro from Aitape West Sepik Province, Snr Inspector Kingston Karato of Popondetta Northern Province, Private Bernard Tumbi from East Sepik.
The BRA burnt down staff houses, killing a little Manus girl who was the daughter of Sgt Mathew Kove. She too had NOTHING to do with the distribution of mining shares of the Panguna mine, she had NOTHING to do with the enviromental damage caused by the Panguna mine, but the BRA burnt her alive while she screamed "Daddy daddy"!, not realising her innocent daddy was lying in a pool of blood.
A male visitor from the Highlands region who was staying in another house, was ordered by the BRA to stay inside the house while they burnt him alive.
He too was INNOCENT, and had NOTHING to do with the distribution of mining shares or the pollution of Jaba river in Panguna.
After the BRA fled, some prisoners refused to escape, they wept openly at what had just unfolded; the dead bodies of the CIS officers and the lifeless body of that little innocent girl were too hard to bear.
After killing the C.I.S staff, Ona and his comrades then stole the weapons from the C.I.S facility.They released the Bougainville prisioners, burnt down the facilities and carried out more destructions and killings.
Police/Riot Squad could not capture him.So the PNGDF were sent to Bougainville to help capture Ona.That's how the war started, and that's why the PNGDF went to Bougaunville.
Some Bougainvilleans will say, the BRA killed the C.I.S staff because the C.I.S mistreated the Bougainville prisoners which is a lie.
It's a lie because they burnt the little girl alive who had NOTHING to do with the prisioners.
That lie was invented to try and justify the murder of the INNOCENT C.I.S staff who were murdered simply because of the colour of their skin, including that little 6 year old INNOCENT girl.
