FROM POTS TO PACKETS: WHY FOUNDATIONS MATTER (AND WHY AGILITY WINS).

My first exposure to networking wasn’t cloud or SD-WAN. It was Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) – copper lines, Ohm’s law, foreign voltage, and the painful reality that a few millivolts could ruin modulation.

Back then, installing a leased line for enterprise meant understanding every electrical detail. That analog discipline became my launchpad. When the shift came – from TDM to IP – I didn’t fight it. I adapted. Not because it was easy, but because I had built an agile mindset long before “agile” became a buzzword.

Today, technology changes faster than ever. But the real edge isn’t memorizing the latest protocol. It’s having the discipline to learn continuously, the humility to revisit basics, and the speed to unlearn and relearn.

✅ Know Ohm’s law – even if you work with fiber now.
✅ Understand why foreign voltage matters – even if you’re commissioning routers.
✅ Keep upgrading – not because your CV needs it, but because the network depends on it.

Continuous learning isn’t a trend. It’s survival. And it’s our greatest edge.
