Of all the places I’ve been, Manila is my favorite. I’m amazed to see the history I once read in textbooks come alive, and aside from that, the city is so diverse you can experience different cultures just by walking around.

I’ve been photographing this event since 2018, and by now it has been captured countless times from different perspectives. As a photographer, the challenge lies in finding a way to make a shot that is different from the rest.

This particular photo was taken during the finale segment of Steffes-Ollig Feuerwerke of Team Germany. I managed to capture the very last explosion of their finale. After that, given the risk of overexposure and uncertain of when the bay area lights would be turned on, I still intentionally left the shutter of my camera open and waited for the lights to illuminate the scene.
