Otakufest 2026 (Part 2)

I went to Otakufest again this year with my friends and I was so excited to use my camera for portraits. Needless to say, the photos exceeded my expectations with the Sony + Sigma combo. The event was as fun as ever and it was amazing seeing cosplayers put so much effort into bringing their characters to life. Definitely would love to go back to Otakufest again soon.

Chinese New Year 2026 - Year of the Fire Horse

As the countdown begins, performers at the Yap-San Diego Ancestral House showcased a live performance with a vibrant lion dance in celebration for the upcoming Chinese New Year.

I visited the ancestral house after hearing that our photography club was holding a photowalk that evening. It was my first time photographing Chinese New Year festivities and I thought it would be a great opportunity to start document Chinese New Year moments for the first time.

To my surprise, there was an actual lion dance performance scheduled that night. The atmosphere was fast-paced and electric. As someone shooting with only a prime lens, I found it both challenging and demanding in terms of timing and position.

Yet despite that, I was completely captivated by the performance and genuinely proud of the shots I managed to capture. Needless to say, I wanted more but I was too late to discover there was actually another event at the Chu Un Buddhist Temple. Perhaps, some other time.

"Bardagulan sa Baseline og Mango"

Ever since I started planning what to photograph for Sinulog 2026, I knew I wanted something different from the usual. I wanted to capture something else. Sinulog is often associated with grand parades and endless partying, but there’s another side to it. Face painting at Baseline and Mango Avenue. A chaotic yet joyful scene where everyone paints each other with vibrant colors, shouting “Pit Señor”, smiles everywhere you look, celebrating like there’s no tomorrow. Strangers turn into friends, barkadas battle to outpaint each other, tourists joining in on the fun, and families celebrate together. This was the side of Sinulog I wanted to capture, the shared moments. Through my lens, this is how Sinulog lives.

Viva Pit Senyor Sto. Niño!! 🥳🎉

SuPaKK: Sugboanong Pakigbisog Kontra Korapsyon

Religious devotees and civic groups took to the streets of Colon and Fuente Cebu City on Sunday afternoon, 30 November 2025, to express their solidarity. The event called "SuPaKK: Sugboanong Pakigbisog Kontra Korapsyon", which was a call by Cebu Archbishop Alberto "Abet" Uy, urged Cebuanos to join a collective and prayerful stand for truth in support of transparency and accountability.

It also marks the 162nd Birth Anniversary in honor of the Father of the Philippine Revolution, G*t. Andres Bonifacio, which reminds Filipinos to fight for accountability, good governance, truth, and freedom.

B&W Street Photography Challenge

A photographer friend tagged me for this B&W Street Photography Challenge, so I grabbed my camera and headed out for a solo walk. I eventually found myself in Colon’s night market. It was crowded, busy, loud, and honestly the perfect place to shoot. Navigating the tight spaces was tricky, but the energy made it worth it.

Definitely going back soon (hopefully with a better lens… foreshadowing?!?! 👀).

"Mosh Pit sa Molave"

Went to Molave again yesterday to do another solo photowalk. Luckily, I found out it might be the last pop-up of the year, so I had to go as it was perfect for my next photo project. They said there would be a set of bands playing there, but little did I know there was actually a mosh pit involved. I was lucky enough to witness such an event.

A mosh pit is an area in a concert where people, known as "Moshers", gather and lose themselves to the rythm of metal and hard rock. Although it may look chaotic and violent to the outside perspective, moshers are always responsible which they follow the moshing ettiquete:

1.) If someone falls down, pick them up
2.) If someone drops something, pick it up and get it back to them
3.) Don't force anyone who aren't moshing, especially those who want to get out.

Everyone was so hyped up. People moved like chaos turned to rhythm; pushing, jumping, punching the air. At the same time, everyone was responsible and helped those who fell to the floor. Everyone had the time of their lives.

Molave, a small community nestled in Cebu City where people from different walks of life hang out and forget about life for a while. I feel like l just scratched the surface as to what Molave really is about, and what makes Molave so unique. I guess I'll have to wait another year to document the energy that makes Molave, Molave.

"Youth in Action"

Youth volunteers from various schools and colleges take part in repacking and transporting of goods for the victims of the recent earthquake that struck Northern Cebu. Their actions reflected the enduring call of duty and spirit of Bayanihan that unite Filipinos in times of crisis. (Cebu City, 2-5 October 2025)

"ANG TAO, ANG BAYAN
NGAYON AY LUMALABAN"

Student activists, civilians, and various groups marched and gathered at Metro Colon and Fuente Circle, Cebu City last Sunday, 21 September 2025.

They called out the flood control corruption scandal which has sparked outrage across the nation and recalled the years of repression under Martial Law during the regime of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. Demonstrators carried placards and chants calling for justice and good governance.

The rally was not only about voicing frustrations on the systemic corruption that's been affecting the country, but also about remembering history and demanding that it never be repeated.
