Have you ever heard someone say their dream is to become rich or a millionaire?💭💸... It makes sense because being financially stable allows us to help the poor, marginalized etc...
I sometimes think about the phrase "money can’t buy happiness" and feel like I can’t relate to it. For me, money can bring happiness and that's why I want to be successful. I remember one time, while i was in a jeepney on my way home from school, two homeless kids got on. One was a boy, around 12 or 13 years old, and the other was a girl, about 4 years old. The girl was singing, hoping people would give her some coins. I didn’t have anything to give because I had spent all my money. I searched for at least five pesos but couldn’t find any. Thankfully, my classmate gave them some coins. It made me reflect and tears began to fall from my eyes. I want to help people like them. That moment made me realize I need to be successful, and I want to excel in the degree I’m pursuing (teaching). I didn’t expect to reach the point where I would want to be in this profession, but now I believe it’s my calling from God. At first, I didn’t want to be a teacher, but now I know God is using me to help others. This is truly my calling. I may not be great at speaking or communicating, but I want to improve because I want to help. I want to use my profession to earn and to give.
I also had an experience in Bangon, Mindoro where I taught some Mangyan children. Life there is tough it's a “isang kain at isang tuka” kind of living. They mostly eat sweet potatoes, and whenever we visited, I wanted them to eat all the food we brought and feel them full. That’s what money can do when you have a heart to help. For me, it feels so good to help and see their smiles and sparkling eyes when you give something, even if it’s small.
I also remember a book that I read before, which was about helping others. Some people aren’t born into a privileged life, while others are. That’s just how life is. If you can help others, God will surely be glad, and it becomes a part of who we are. It's not about teaching people to rely on those who have more, but about helping and giving something when we can.
I know everyone sees money differently, but this experience taught me how it can make a difference in people's lives, how we can bring them happiness, even if just for a moment.🤍
