"Lyrical Lenses"

29/10/2022

Our theme is combining Lyricism and Visual Art Form as a way of proving that life somehow imitates art and how music/lyrics is universal in a way that it can be interpreted differently by everyone.

We wanted to combine both worlds because we believe that everyone enjoys music in one way or another. We wanted to incorporate images to music to help people have some kind of "guide image" when listening to music, to show that if you really look into an image as the music plays, it may help you understand the music a little more deeper.

Title: Rain On Me
By: Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande

"I hear the thunder comin' down won't you rain on me?"

This photo is shot at one of Leyte's flooded ricefield during Typhoon Paeng's landfall. The main subject is a kid that appears to be smiling despite the gloomy weather during the anticipated fiesta. His optimistic demeanor perfectly encapsulates Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande's song "Rain On Me," which conveys the idea that both the good and the bad moments of life's various seasons should be celebrated and cherished.

"Waiting for the one, to find the way back home"

This photograph was taken near a local port in Lapu-Lapu City. The photo shows a subject which is a ship which represents a person waiting for their loved ones that is working hard abroad to support their family back home. This song sang by Zhou Shen tells a story about someone waiting for their loved one and wanting to meet again no matter how long it takes. It conveys a sense of wanting to be with side by side with the person you miss dearly.

"Un día nuevo vendrá un mundo nuevo será"
(a new day will come, a new world will be)

This shot was taken almost a year ago (by me) a few days after the Typhoon Odette in Carcar. the Main Subject are the leafless Acacia trees which were all blown away by the Typhoon. I wanted to showcase the strength of the tree itself even after such a disastrous event, how most of them survived and still stands strong to this day. The contrast between the darkness of the branches and the bright sky showing that even if we suffered so much during that time, there will always be hope and a bright tomorrow, that we can still grow if we try. The Trees to me captures the essence of the song that i chose; That we can and will stand tall even after a great fall. Those Acacia trees still stands to this day, with new leaves.

Title: Rise up
By: Andra Day

“And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again”

I took this photo one morning when I decided to have an early morning walk outside. As I was walking around our subdivision, I looked at the sunrise and it somehow gave me hope. I watched the sun rise beautifully and as I was observing it, the bright colors of orange and blue started appearing slowly. While I was there looking at it, I realized that I am exactly the same as the sunrise. That even though yesterday was dark, I have no choice but to rise up again today. Even though the past was scary, I still have to rise up again and not be afraid anymore. Even though how many times I fall and stumble, I still have to choose to rise up a thousand times again.”

Lyrical Lenses

Exhibit 1 Showcases a meaningful logo, a combination of a camera lens and a music note. We wanted to incorporate the camera lens to the note head to keep the structure of the music note itself without disorienting its shape. We kept it black and white to keep it simple, not too distracting to the eye and will not become the "center of the attention" if needed. This logo symbolizes our love for music and photography and how we aim to capture the story of songs through camera's eye.
