PUBLIC ADVISORY from City Government of Davao

Following the issuance of PAG-ASA (Mindanao PRSD) Advisory at 11:10 am, Thursday, and due to inclement weather being experienced in Davao City and nearby provinces, ALL CLASSES in ALL LEVELS in all public and private educational institutions in Davao City are hereby suspended effective 12:00 noon today, January 18, 2024.

Pagpupugay kay Dr. Jose Rizal!

Ang Pambansang Komisyon para sa Kultura at mga Sining ay nakikiisa sa pag-alala sa ika-127 taong kamatayan at kabayanihan ni G*t Jose Rizal na ininaraos ngayong taon sa temang "Rizal: Pundasyon ng Kahapon, Isinasabuhay Ngayon" (Rizal: Rizal: Foundation of the Past, Living Today) sa pangunguna ng National Historical Commission of the Philippines.

Bayani at itinuturing na pinakadakilang Filipino si Jose Rizal (Ho·se Ri·zál).
Isinilang si Jose Rizal noong 19 Hunyo 1861 sa Calamba, Laguna, pampito sa 11 anak nina Francisco Mercado at Teodora Alonso. Batà pa’y kinakitahan na siyá ng katalinuhan. Sa Ateneo Municipal sa Maynila, tumanggap siyá ng mga medalya ng karangalan sa pag-aaral at pagsusulat at ng pinakamataas na marka nang magtapos noong 1876 ng batsilyer sa sining. Kumuha siyá ng medisina sa Unibersidad ng Santo Tomas hábang nag-aaral ng pagiging agrimensor sa Ateneo. Sa gulang na 21, lihim siyáng nagpunta sa Europa kung saan tinapos niyá ang medisina at pilosopiya sa Universidad Central de Madrid sa Espanya.

Itinuring siyáng gabay ng Kilusang Propaganda at aktibong nagsulat sa diyaryong La Solidaridad. Noong 1889, ipinalathala niyáng muli nang may anotasyon sa London, England ang librong Sucesos de las Islas Filipinas ni Dr. Antonio de Morga na unang nalathala sa Mexico noong 1609. Bago iyon, nalathala na ang kaniyang nobelang Noli me tangere sa Berlin, Germany. Sinundan ito ng nobelang El filibusterismo na ipinalimbag sa Gent, Belgium. Isiniwalat ng kaniyang mga nobela ang kabulukan ng pamamahalang Espanyol sa Filipinas at ang mga kahinaan ng simbahang Katoliko hábang naglalatag ng mga kaisipang pampolitika ukol sa pagpapalakas ng diwang makabayan.

Pagbalik sa Filipinas noong 1892, dinakip siyá at ipinatapon sa Dapitan. Upang matapos ang destiyero, nagboluntaryo siyáng maglingkod bilang manggagamot sa Cuba noong 1896, taón ng pagsiklab ng Himagsikang Filipino. Muli siyáng dinakip sa kalagitnaan ng paglalakbay, kinasuhan ng panghihikayat ng rebelyon, at binitay noong umaga ng 30 Disyembre 1896. Ang kamatayan ni Jose Rizal ay lalong nagsilbing liwanag sa mga kababayan na ipagpatuloy ang rebolusyon tungo sa pambansang kasarinlan at pagbubuo ng nasyon.
