The Municipality of Daraga, Barangay Bascaran is renowned for its large number of abaniko (hand fan) weavers. The majority of the families who live there have been producing abaniko pamaypay for many years, and this custom has been passed down through the generations. The abaniko of Albay contributes to biodiversity by promoting the use of sustainable and locally sourced materials such as bamboo, buri, abaca and pandan. It's traditional production encourages the cultivation and protection of the native plants, helping preserve local ecosystems. The craft also reflects eco-friendly practices and traditional knowledge such as selective harvesting, natural drying and minimal waste.
