“There’s no one great advice but to simply start. And probably keep trying. Learn the basics, work to master it, and perhaps bend them ever so slightly until you find your happy ground. You’ll feel it within you if film photography is something worth your while.

You’ll understand the small pleasures of opening a fresh canister or advancing the lever after every click. Inspirations will kick in and creative juices will flow naturally, but it only happens once you start.”

“June 2018 was the first time I joined Pride March. The weather was gloomy, but that didn’t stop the crowd from pouring as well. My friend and I took refuge under the stadium and while observing the parade march on, I looked out through a small window to watch the rest of the happy-go-lucky people get back in the complex. Needless to say, this photograph was born. These four women rose up that day to show love and support to the LGBTQIA+ community, to stand up for their rights, and to celebrate the wide and colorful spectrum that is humanity. Like these four women that day, we were all just gay.”

“I encountered Khalil briefly when he was enrolled in Digital Filmmaking in Benilde. I asked if I could take a portait of him in the cafeteria by a big glass window.

He instantly recognized the camera I was using, which was a Hasselblad with an 80mm. I always had my camera with me then and was heavily influenced by Richard Avedon, and his white background portraits. It was a fan girl moment for me meeting Khalil, because of 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten, a film he starred in.”

Three fun facts about Sunflowers:

1. A Sunflower head consists of up to two thousand tiny flowers rich in nectar! This makes them a superb treat for bees.

2. Young Sunflowers follow the sun’s direction, moving its face from east to west during the day. This helps with their growth. Once mature, they face east permanently. This attracts bees and pollinators.

3. They are highly capable of absorbing toxins, including toxic metals and radiation. To help lands recover from nuclear disasters like Chernobyl and Fukushima, scientists planted millions of Sunflowers in areas that were heavily affected.

Sunflowers are also known as “happy” flowers, symbolizing adoration, loyalty, and longevity. Might just be that simple and thoughtful gift you need for Mother’s Day this Sunday 🌻
