This gown gracefully transitions from vibrant orange to deep crimson red, mirroring the breathtaking sunsets of Carles, Iloilo. Like the sky that glows warmly as the sun dips behind the horizon, the gown captures the enchanting beauty and serenity that make Carles truly unforgettable.

Its fiery hues symbolize the spirit of every Carlesanon. The bright orange reflects their warmth, optimism, and welcoming nature, embracing everyone with genuine hospitality. The rich red embodies their strength, resilience, and unwavering determination—qualities shaped by the sea, the islands, and the enduring traditions of their hometown.

Just as the sunset paints the skies of Carles with colors of hope and wonder, this creation celebrates a community that shines with kindness, courage, and pride in its heritage. It is a tribute to the heart of Carles—a place where beauty meets resilience, and where every sunset tells the story of its remarkable people.

WALO-WALO: THE KRAIT GUARDIAN OF CARLES

Where the ocean thrives, our heritage survives.

Inspired by the Yellow-Lipped Sea Krait (Walo-Walo), a remarkable marine serpent found in the pristine waters of Carles, Iloilo, this national costume pays tribute to the mystery, elegance, and resilience of one of the Philippines' extraordinary marine species.

At the heart of this masterpiece are the three-dimensional hand-carved sea snakes, meticulously sculpted and hand-painted to capture the krait's lifelike movement and striking beauty. Coiling gracefully around the wearer, they symbolize both the quiet power and protective spirit of the ocean.

Completing the design is a vibrant backdress of colorful corals and flowing seagrass, recreating the underwater habitat where the sea krait hunts and thrives. Together, these elements celebrate the rich marine biodiversity of Carles and the delicate balance of life beneath the waves.

Walo-Walo is a tribute to carlesanon artistry, our coastal heritage, and our shared responsibility to protect the oceans that sustain us.
