A Symphony of Light and Shadows

Amidst the blockbuster rush of the opening weekend of Clark Picnic Grounds, we found this moment of absolute stillness.

The Mood:

Glow & Grandeur: The majestic trees stand tall, bathed in a soft, ethereal light that transforms the grounds into a midnight sanctuary.

Quiet Connection: While the parking lot was packed and the crowds were buzzing, this perspective captures the peaceful heart of the community.

Tech Meets Art: Captured on Dad’s Huawei Mate X6, the long exposure brings out the vibrant green of the canopy and the warmth of the glowing walkways.

Even in the busiest seasons, there is always a quiet corner to "chase moments" if you know where to look.

RUFOUS HORNBILL (KALAW)

Known as the "Clock of the Mountains" because their loud calls are often heard at specific times of the day, the Rufous Hornbill is a majestic and vulnerable species endemic to the Philippines.

Because of their impressive size and dramatic, deep red casque (beak helmet), seeing one is always a magical experience.

This sighting in Maria Aurora was pure magic. Dad was actually on a rest period, just about to sleep when KALAW yelled.

Total chaos erupted for a split second!

Completely unprepared but scrambled immediately to ensure having a good shot of it "dancing in the sky."

After a few frantic frames, it was a special opportunity of watching him soar overhead.

Clark Picnic Grounds: We Levelled Up! 🧺✨

Our favorite weekend spot just got a serious glow-up! 🪄

It’s no secret that we love a good family picnic, so we made sure we are first to witness the IMPROVED Clark Picnic Grounds and it left us utterly MAGICAL.

They just had their official opening, and the transformation is absolutely impressive. It’s not just "better"; it feels like a SIGNATURE destination for families seeking a premium weekend bonding experience right here in Clark.

Here’s why we are so excited:

Space to Run: The grounds are massive, with clearer, greener grass that’s just asking for picnic mats and running feet. For the "Cubs," this wide-open, clutter-free space is a sensory blessing. They can move freely without the overwhelm of a crowd!

Technical Upgrades: A massive, clearer parking area means no more stress upon arrival. They've also added a dedicated running walkway perfect for an early morning jog or a peaceful sunset stroll.

The Atmosphere: The energy on opening night was incredible! Food stalls lined the area, live music filled the air, and seeing so many happy families like us made it truly special.

For Dad, it's a whole new playground for capturing community milestones (we even managed a sneaky family reflection selfie in that "The Sn**ch Club" mirror.

We can't wait to spend more weekends here. Whether you’re a local or just a traveler stopping by near the airport, the new Clark Picnic Grounds is absolutely worth a visit! 😁

It's not just a park; it's a new chapter for our community.

A Quick Stop at Pantabangan Dam 🚗⛰️

Every long drive deserves a spectacular finish.

We took a quick detour to Pantabangan Dam as wr head home from our Pampanga-Cauayan-Baler long drive, and the view did not disappoint!

After days of navigating winding roads and coastal routes, the wide, blue horizon of the dam was the perfect place to wave goodbye to our big adventure.

From the twists and turns of Malico road, the forests of Isabela to the waves of Baler, and finally the calm waters of Pantabangan, this journey has been one for the books.

We've headed back to Pampanga with full hearts, a lot of laundry, and even more memories.

LUZON WATER REDSTART 🐦

This striking little bird is an endemic treasure found only in the Philippines.

Known for its distinct plum-blue body and bright orange-brown belly, the Luzon Water Redstart is a true "river specialist."

We found this beauty along the rocky edges of a stream during the Maria Aurora trail. It felt like a resident host welcoming us to the area, staying just long enough on the rocks for us to capture its vibrant colors in the morning light.

It’s amazing how such a small bird can have such a commanding presence in the middle of a rushing stream.

WHITE-EARED BROWN DOVE 🐦

This bird is special because it can only be found here in the Philippines! It gets its name from the small white "ear" stripe just below its eyes. While many birds like to stay in the open, this dove is quite shy and prefers to live deep inside the forest where it eats fruits and berries.

Dad caught this one during his trip to Maria Aurora. These birds are usually hard to photograph because they blend in so well with the brown branches and shadows of the trees. We were lucky to get such a clear view of it resting right next to those purple wild fruits!

🕒 16-Hour Journey: A Long Day for the Lens

Left the house at 5:00 AM and finally stepped back through the door at 9:00 PM.

It was ironically exhausting yet feeling recharged on a full day wildlife track through the beautiful landscapes of Maria Aurora.

The highlight of the trek?

Witnessing the majestic Kalaw (Rufous Hornbill) in its natural habitat, a sighting that makes every kilometer worth it.

📸 What’s Next?

The camera bag is still heavy with today’s captures, but for now, it’s time to recharge.

Current Status: Resting and recovering.

Coming Soon: File transfers happen tomorrow! Stay tuned over the next few days as I start sharing the frames from this expedition.

There’s something special about the stillness of the forest that stays with you long after the day is done.

Now, for some much-needed sleep! 💤

No trip to Baguio is complete without a visit to Choco-late de Batirol. ☕🍂

We prepared ourselves for a long wait given the tourist season, but the universe was on our side, we were seated almost immediately!

We dove straight into their best-sellers to warm up in the mountain air:

For Callie: The classic, rich Chocolate de Batirol topped with fluffy marshmallows. It was a sensory delight in a mug! 🍫☁️

For Cassie: We’re keeping an eye on sugar levels, so she enjoyed a refreshing Passion Fruit Tea. It’s the perfect zesty alternative that still feels like a special holiday treat. 🍹✨

For the Table: We couldn’t resist a spread of traditional Pinoy kakanin. From the fluffy Bibingka and classic Suman to the vibrant P**o Bumbong, our table was a celebration of local flavors.

It’s these slow, sweet moments that make our Baguio stay so memorable.

Good food, better company, and the warmth of a batirol-whisked chocolate.

A Secret Sanctuary: Pasigshan Artisan Village 🌲🏮

We came for the history at the Diplomat Hotel, but we stayed for the magic of the Artisan Village.

We stumbled upon a delightful surprise during our Baguio trip! Nestled right within the Diplomat Hotel area is the Pasigshan Artisan Village, and it is absolutely "cute" in every sense of the word.

We had no idea this creative hub was tucked away here. It’s a beautifully curated space filled with local food, unique crafts, and a vibe that feels like a warm hug amidst the cool Baguio mist.

Artisan Finds: From "Cordillera Brewery" to "Sugar Shack," the wooden signposts point to a community of local sellers we loved supporting.

The Atmosphere: They have a dedicated area for bonfires and what looks like a stage for live music and performers. We can only imagine how cozy it feels here at night with the fire crackling and local melodies in the air!

A Sensory Win: For the Cubs, the open-air layout and the gentle creative energy made for a perfect afternoon of exploration without the overwhelm of the city crowd.

While Dad was busy framing shots of the rustic textures and scouting for birds, and Mom was admiring the local entrepreneurship, the girls were simply enjoying the freedom of the village. It’s a reminder that sometimes the best travel experiences are the ones you didn't plan for.

Art, community, and a crackling fire, this is the Baguio soul we love.

The Colors of Mines View: A Shopper’s Maze and a Photographer’s Dream 🧺📸

If you’re looking for the heart of Baguio’s local crafts, just follow the scent of peanut brittle and the sight of a thousand walis tambo.

No trip to Baguio is complete without a stop at Mines View Park. While most people head straight for the view deck, we often find ourselves lingering in the narrow, light-dappled aisles of the market stalls.

This is where our family dynamic really shines:

Mom’s Territory: Getting "stuck" (happily!) among the rows of handwoven Sagada bags and the colorful displays of souvenirs. It’s hard to resist taking a piece of the Cordilleras home with us.

Dad’s Mission: Finding the "shot within the shop." He used the play of light and shadow today to capture the texture of the native handicrafts. Those details of woven patterns are just as beautiful as the mountain views!

The Cubs’ Adventure: For the girls, Mines View is a tactile playground. The soft wool of the bonnets, the rough straw of the brooms, and the sweet taste of grilled corn, it's a full day sensory workout that they tackle with curious smiles.

We don’t just visit places; we weave ourselves into their stories.

In Baguio, the journey isn't just about the destination, it’s about how you get there. 🚕🌲

Touring the Summer Capital is a unique blend of steep climbs, cool breezes, and local rhythm.

For us at Two Cubs and a Camera, navigating the city is a sensory experience we embrace as a family.

Here is what "going local" looks like in the City of Pines:

The Iconic Jeepney: You haven't truly experienced Baguio until you’ve hopped into a jeepney. Watching the world go by through the open back.

The Honest Taxi: Baguio taxis are legendary for their honesty and for their ability to navigate hills that look like rollercoasters.

On Two Legs: Because of the cool weather, Baguio is one of the few places in the Philippines where "walking it" is a joy. Whether we're strolling down Session Road to see the chalk art or experiencing the crowd of the Night Market, our legs are our best tour guides.

It’s not just about moving from point A to point B, it’s about feeling the pulse of the mountains beneath your feet.

Are you a "hike every trail" person or a "jeepney pro"?

Forget the standard movie theater. We’ve found our new favorite spot for a film! 🤩🌲

Late afternoon view at The Manor at Camp John Hay.

They’ve set up the most perfect outdoor movie experience right on the lawn! 🎬✨

Picnic mats are laid out, the massive screen is lit, and the classic Manor architecture makes for the ultimate backdrop.

This is where the "Two Cubs" mission truly comes to life.

While Dad frames this stunning shot (an incredible compression between the hotel and the sky!), and the Cubs settle comfortably onto the grass for a relaxing sensory break, Mom is experiencing the rare joy of not thinking about the next deadline.

This is what "chasing moments" means to us. Finding that perfect balance of open space, stunning views, and pure, unplanned relaxation. We don't need a fancy itinerary when we have this.

It's the simple moments that turn a trip into a treasure.

What is your go-to way to spend the late afternoon while you’re on vacation? A walk, a nap, or perhaps a movie on the grass? ☕⛰️
